New weight record for Once was fat

Ok today I had a buddy in the gym. It was chest day and I was getting ready to start some decline bb presses and My buddy came over and said oh your working chest today. I asked him do you think I could get two plates each side and he go's well theres only one way to find out. Then I got really nervous staring at 225lbs. I took a quick break and came back to the weights starring at me and I was like hell yeh Im going to do this. I got two reps of 225lbs and had the best workout ever. It was on the smith but I dont care this was HUGE for me at only weighing 170lbs after the fat loss. I felt like superman.

Thats my story. Soon 3 plates will come but not before some long hard work.

Yeh eventually. I train with dumbells for flat bench press for the moment. I figure when I change my routine up I will put the dumbells down and use the bb for flat bench. I would like to get the feeling first before going all out. Thanks for the reply M.

Man, when i hit a new PR in the gym, i feel like a little kid on Christmas day after i opened my presents and got exactly what i wanted, i just walk around smiling all day. The next day sucks though as the happiness wears off, i start thinking "shit now i gotta deadlift 5 plates?!"

Yeah, same here, im using a lot of DB's at the moment.

When you switch to flat BB bench tho, just remember that it'll be disproportionately weaker than your DB work... give it a couple weeks, then try for a PR.

you should do more on barbell then on dumbells

You might be pleasantly surprised. A while ago I hit up 215 about 6 times for my workout with BB bench. Then I got the flu for almost a week. I couldn't lift that week and I felt too sick to eat much food; it really set me back. I lost like 3 reps at that weight and all my lifts went down for my entire body. Since then I have changed up my routine to use dumbells instead of the barbell for my bench.

The other day some friends of mine were over testing their maxes with the benchpress. I decided I would try to see how many times I could hit 225. I hit it 4 times without having done bb bench in many months. This way the day following back day, and the day before back day is chest/shoulder day. I probably could've eeked another rep out under better circumstances.

DB bench definitely helps BB bench!

Ahh, The feeling of throwing up two big plates for the first time was sweet for me too. Congrats!!

Why did you use a smith machine when you had a spotter (your buddy) there? I hate the smith machine for record lifts because of an injury I got while doing a near record decline press. It tore up my shoulder in a bad way. Might have been only coincidence but I recall hearing other injuries using the smith machine. Something to do with the ROM restrictions. I wouldn't risk a second attempt if I were you.
