How far down on pull downs?
How far down do you guys go on wide grip pull downs??
I go all the way till the bar hits my chest on the first couple, then on the last few I cant hit my chest with the bar anymore. If I go lighter so I can hit my chest on more reps I still keep going bc I feel the lighter weight is too light. The thing I hate most about pull downs is there's no clear cut line when you hit failure. So when do you stop doing them -when you can't hit your chest anymore? -when you can't go below your chin anymore? I'm not sure if I'm clear on this, but keep in mind I always go till failure, and with bench and curls, etc there's no question where that is. |

When I cant hit my chest any more. There is no point in doing a movment any more after you cannot get a full ROM, a full ROM being the entire point of the movement. Failure occurs when form is broken or you cannot complete a movement, at least for me.
(although there is a guy in my gym that loads six plate a side on a bar and bends his knees a couple inches... he calls it a squat, I call him an ass) |

If I stop after I can't hit my chest anymore, I don't feel like I've exhausted my lats. This is different than say, skull crushers where when I can't get full ROM anymore I'm done and I know I hit it hard. Contrast that to pull downs where I don't hit my lats hard if I stop when I can't hit my chest anymore.
