Hello from College Station, Texas;
Just got introduced to this site from a fellow workout buff and was just wondering if there were any Capoeiristas on here. I started dancing Capoeira-style this past year and have been getting really into it as a means of keeping a very fit upper-body, especially in the shoulders, along with a nice lower-body workout. If anyone is not aware of what this martial artform/dancing style is about, feel free to drop a message here and I will be glad to answer whatever questions you may have. If there are any fellow Capoeiristas out there, drop a line as well and we can chat about it. Your roda is my roda! Peace to all, Johnny Blaze |

I've heard of it; Brazilian art based on the concept of hiding techniques by making them look like dance moves, right.
I don't practice Capoeira, but I train Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and kickboxing. Welcome aboard, the people on here are pretty good about answering your questions. |

Capoeira is both a martial art and a dance. In fact, it was created in Brazil during the time of the Portugese slave trade by the African slaves. It involves a lot of movement (constant motion) and vigorous gymnastic ability.
As a practitioner of Kung Fu (N. Shaolin Praying Mantis/Tong Long), I have found Capoeira to be both a great workout and also a great way for me to apply certain skills of my other martial arts training. Ever since I started Capoeira I have been more focused on my opponent than usual (as it teaches you to keep your eyes on your adversary). I also do Tai Chi Chuan, some Tae Kwan Do (random/private lessons), and other forms of Kung Fu other than Tong Long, such as some Tiger, some Crane, some Monkey, and some Southern Shaolin. Peace, Johnny P.S. Crayon is just jealous because I can kick his ass. *j/k* |
