Starting a cutting period.
Tomorrow I'm starting a cutting period. For 4 weeks I will get up at around 7:30am in the morning & go to the gym & to 20mins of cardio with mixtures of 15second sprints, 1min50second jogging, & 2mins heavy walking 4 times a week. I will then have a whey shake & bananna right away, go home shower & eat my breakfast meal of beef & oatmeal at around 8:30am & then go about my daily work & so on & eat my 6 meals a day & shake & do my weights at around 5pm. & have a shake & eat 2 more times. But I usually binge a little on the weekend like some pizza, cake or a bowl of icecream. I won't even do this on the weekend. I will also make sure not to use too much sauces on food. I only use a little bit of ketchup on beef & red potatoes. I also use a little bit of E.D. Smith No Sugar Added maple syrup for a bit of flavoring to my oatmeal. This should be enough to tighten up even more don't you think? The last time I did it was about 6 months ago & it worked. I started bingeing on the weekend once or twice a week & the fat didn't come back.

I currently weigh 215lbs. I don't want to lose lb's, I'm looking to shed some body fat that I gained during my Iodine treatment in August for my Hyper Thyroid Dysfunction now on Syntrhoids & my thyroid is normal. My plan is to keep eating my 6 meals a day, I've also cut back on carbs somewhat only eating 3 servings out of 6 meals instead of 4 servings of carbs a day. I would normally eat my 6 meals a day as well on weekends, but I would incorporate some not to greasy hawaiin pizza on Saturdays, & on Sundays I'd usually have some Pringles & cake &/or Baskin Robbins chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I would keep clean all week though on my diet. But as I said for the next 4 weeks I won't even binge. I will also lower my use of ketchup & other flavoring sauces & eat no pasta or bread. Well I don't eat much bread anyway as it is. So I just today started with about 20mins of treadmill at 7am this morning on an empty stomach. I had a whey shake & bananna right away & ate breakfast when I got home. I want to eat enough so I don't lose too much muscle or power while shedding fat. This has worked for me in the past. But it's not good to do it for much longer than 4 or 5 weeks.

Don't go through an out of control binge, but if you want to have one cheat day on the weekend, where you ARE IN CONTROL, then go for it. Diet, while it might determine 80% of what you lose, can only help when used in conjunction with a training schedule.

The last time I did this 4week cutting period was last March & worked beautifully. Since then I usually eat Dominoes Hawaiin Pizza on Saturdays for lunch with some fish along with the rest of my daily meals. At night I may have some popcorn OR low fat frozen yogurt at the movies if my girlfriend & I go. On Sundays I'll usually have a descently cook meal with my father at a restaurant like BBQ'd chicken & a baked potatoe so I don't count that as cheating. I may snack on a can of Pringles (less greasy than most chips) while watching a football game with the boys. & I usually get to have for desert after supper a bowl of chocloat peanut butter icecream from Baskin Robbins. I try not to eat this stuff after 7pm. But the funny thing is since I only do this on the weekends & super clean during the week, I didn't gain any of the fat back since my last cutting period. The only reason I'm stuck doing a cutting period now is due to my thyroid treatment as the doctor told me no matter how much I trained or dieted, I was still going to gain some bodyfat from the Iodine treatment. But today is the 2nd day doing my cardio at 7am in the morning on an empty stomach & of my cutting period/hardcore diet. I already notice a difference.

It sounds like you're doing a great job of managing your training and diet. And of "outsmarting the system". What is it about your diet that is hardcore? What are you restricting during the week (other than carbs)? Are you getting your EFA? And protein through normal food not only whey shakes?

I'm taking 2 flaxseed oil capsules & 2 omega 3 capsules a day for the EFA's. As for enough food, if you haven't read my training/meal schedule thread you'd see I eat 6 meals a day plus 2 whey shakes. I eat 2 servings of lean ground beef, 2 skinless boneless chicken breasts, & 2 servings of pollack fish a day. I was eating 4 meals out of 6 with carbs like bagged oatmeal or grilled red potatoes. But I've cut down to 3 servings of carbs a day. 2 cups of oatmeal for breakfast, 1 red potatoe with chicken with lunch & 1 after training & my post workout shake. As for being hard-core I'm elimintating %98 of my condements just using a little bit of ketchup & NO SUGAR added maple syrup on oatmeal. I stop eating carbs at around 6pm instead of 8pm. I usually eat pizza once a week, & maybe some cake &/or ice cream only on weekends as I'm still human. But I've completely cut them out for the next month. & of course the 20mins of srpints, jogging & heavy walking on an empty stomach at 7am is pretty hardcore itself.

You know I don't think you need to be doing quite so much cardio. Cut those condiments out and take your calories down by 150-250, and you'll notice differences. Manipulate your diet first, then when you hit a plateau, incorporate cardio.
Peace. |

My diet is already pretty good. Like I said I usually just use a little bit of ketchup with my beef & red potatoe. & with my otmeal I use just a little bit of NO SUGAR added maple syrupin the morning. I'm doing this cardio to really tighten up & only doing it for 4 weeks. We are all human & need to cheat once or twice a week, but right now I'm not even doing that. & the cheating foods I get aren't all that fatening either except for maybe the icecream. But nothing for 4 weeks, I'm already seeing a difference after just 3 days of doing it & I'm still strong on the weights.

Well for breakfast I have a large serving of lean ground beef & 2 cups of oatmeal so I get my protein from the beef. I eat 6 meals a day & include 2 shakes a day. As for this cutting period since I do my 20mins of H.I.T. training on the treadmill, I have a whey shake & bananna right after & then go home & eat my beef & oatmeal along with my other 5 meals throughout the day & train around
4 or 5pm. & then eat 2 or 3 more times. I stop eating carbs at my post work out meal usually around 5:30 or 6pm. & then eat another serving of lean ground beef with some sort of green vegetable &1hr before bed I have 1serving 0f pollack fish fillet. |

Well in my self intro page I've stated I've had throid problems that started in 2000. I was 227 with a 34inch waist & had descent defintion & was benching 320lbs for 4 reps & looking to add more until I lost about 25lbs in about a month & was very weak, tired & not well. I was on other thyroid drugs for about 3yrs but the doctors didn't think they were working the as well as they should. So they changed my treatment & gave me Iodine to shut my thyroid down & as planned would later put me on synthroids (man made thyroid hormone) & would be able to contronl it better. I had it this past August & it took almost 6 months to take full effect & needed synthroids. But during the fall due to have no thyroid, the doctors told me uncontrolably I'd gain body fat as when your thyroid is low or non existant you gain body fat no matter how much you train or how good your diet is. Now that my thyroid is normal with the synthroids, I've decided to start this cardio at 7am in the morning on an empty stomach & keeping a strict diet with no cheat days for now 3 weeks. I just finished the first. I want to get rid of the bit of body fat I gained from my throid treatment. After just a week I already see a huge difference.

I only posted the thread to see what others thought & if anyone else has done H.I.T. cardio training for 20-25mins early in the morning on an empty stomach & followed a really strict diet for 4 weeks or more. Has anyone & had good results with it? I'm seeing results after just the first week.
