Periodizing training through phases of overreaching and de-loading is extremly important to get continuous strength gains. One can not get infinetly stronger. It is not that easy. You need to build up, back off a bit and buld back up again.
I am not too keen on HST as I try never to lift lower than by rm %.
That is to say if my rm for a set of 15 is 40 % I want to lift at least that 40 % and not spend the best part of 2 weeks lifting lower. Doing the hst routine is a bit risky , i think, as I might find after many months I am no stronger or even weaker.
I always try to lift heavier each week - never lower.
Comments appreciated.

I did 6 weeks of HST and got great results, my max on the bench actually went up considerably despite the fact that I was never benching "heavy". Not sure if anyone else got similiar results but you just need to stick with it. You'll get some gains in strength and will definitely see gains in hypertrophy.

I'm a pretty big fan of HST. I had used a modified version of it for the past months, and just this week decided to quit trying to tweak something that needed no tweaking. I am on my first actual HST cycle as of now, doing the 15's.
I agree with P-Funk as well, about periodization. You cannot continue to make linear gains forever. Sometimes its a 2 step forward, 1 step back process. If you always got bigger and stronger, people would never stop growing.

Actually those who have used the program find it is better for strength than mass generally.
I loved the program myself and have always been a fan of increased frequency, and I love the idea of cycling my reps as well.
For me, it works great and I think I will revisit something SIMILAR again.

I agree. I would have to say the reason you arent "keen" on the HST philosophy is because your used to training once a week, full blow intensity. Moving from that, to something like HST gives you this feeling of not quite hitting any bodypart right... I know thats how I felt at first as well, but there are many factors that contribute to muscle growth, and intensity is just one of them.

Best program in my life had me hitting the whole body 3x a week just like HST. I modify my HST but I like it for a changeup.
