Scott getting the right "certain kind of food" isnt necessarily more expensive. I bet you'd save money from quiting all the restaurant/fast food junk and instead prepareing the proper food at home. The eliminating all the junk snacks from your diet will save you even more money.

Also what have you been doing for cardio? Im a lot like you. I tend to fatten up quickly if I dont watch what I eat. My secret is to cut back on the carbs and increase my cardio. The absolute worst thing you can do is quit lifting...........Rich

4 months is not enough time to see anything as far a physical appearance for most people. You might want to think back on your previous workouts and see if you are maximizing your time. You may be socializing to much with other people instead of really putting your mind to lifting. Im not saying you are not working hard but its just a guess. When I first started working out I didnt see anything either. In fact I still dont see much after have been working out for the pas few months. I will say this though. In order to get what I have now my diet was perfect.

Hmm you say you're getting stretch marks, that should be a sign of growth and progress.

Either you really want it and you learn how to change your body, or you dont want it that badly so you quit and be a couch potato for the rest of your days.

Be someone who does something about what they want in life, or be a whiner, you decide.

How much protein are you getting in your diet?

You need PROTEIN to build PROTEIN, muscles are meat and meat is made of protein. You can't build it from fat or carbs alone.

1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight is a good starting point and this MUST be throughout the day. Do not count incomplete proteins unless you know how to "complete" them.

how bad do you want it?

ask yourself, how bad do you want it?

hey man, I have almost given up so many times... but it can be done. It takes perseverance and dedication. Do you want to be happy with yourself, or give up, as Mudge said?

Absolutely positively get some protein and have at least one protein shake a day! I would never see results if I didn't have at least one!

Once you add muscle some of the fat will burn off. Eating right is tougher than actually working out.

good luck, and peace!

I started out very young and ignored diet almost completely, but you are what you eat. If you eat rice you wont build muscle from it, rice is great for energy but its not meat.

Eating is probably what most people dont pay attention to, and why you see most people not making a lot of physical gains in the gym.

I agree. When I first started lifting agan I progressed nicely for several months. I hit a plateau. I started doing research on these forums and various other places. I realized that I need to eat more. Eating more broke my plateau, and changing my routine around to incorporate a wider range of worked muscles also pushed my progress further. If you want more muscle, then a safe rule of thumb when in doubt you should eat. If you're not sure whether or not you've had enough food, then eat.
