I agree. Oddly enough, the frist time I learned about that was during a set of lat pull downs from a friend too.

    Good article, but this:
Always look for ways to maintain or increase tension on the muscles you are training. In other words, DON'T LET THE MUSCLE RELAX OR REST during the set! The easiest and most common way to maintain tension is to simply avoid locking out.
Metabolic waste can force muscles to relax, potentially before an optimal level of muscular inroading can occur with a higher TUT (depending on invidual muscle fiber distribution, set length)- so while I agree with this statement to a point, there is nothing wrong with adjusting variables (so long as there is some constant) to change things up.

Great post Mr. DiMaggio. I was going to post the exact same thing as my first contribution to IM forum, but then I thought, what the hell, there's access to it through the website. We're all guilty of sacrificing form for ego at some point. Frankly, anyone continuously enamored of the amount of weight they use in training doesn't impress me to begin with.

Some of the biggest guys I have seen use the puniest weights. I have reduced my own weights on many movements, in part for the reason of quality.

"Focus on the muscle not the weight..."

But still there are those day's where you just feel like pushing some heavy ass weight and getting rid of all that stress and tension in your mind.

That's also primetime for injury. Like with all things worthwhile, concentration is key. On skullcrushers, I used to use up to 135# but I find that exercise optimal at a weight of 90# or less. Concentration on full rom, constant tension....superior form makes the weight much 'heavier'.

great article, i learned a lot from that. I better start focusing on the form rather than the weight on a few of the exercises i do. However i have a few questions.

What does he mean by negatives? For example, the barbell curls, does he mean at the peak of the exercise when i am letting my arms down, i am going down slowly to feel the pain(burn). ?

Whats the difference between eccentric and concentric? Give a few examples

Lastly, i know what he means by a "squeeze" but what is a "stretch". If i were to do a barbell bench or curls, how do i "stretch" ?

Whats the difference between eccentric and concentric? Eccentric is the negitive part of the movement concentric is the positive (doing the work).

how do i "stretch" Full range of motion. Like on curls make sure your arms are fully extended.

That's a great read...thanks! Ironically enough, I was in the gym tonight doing back. My first time back in the gym after a much needed week layoff, and unfortunately a battle with a bad headcold. I wasnt sure what to expect today, so i decided going in i was going to concentrate on the weight and really feel it.

As i sat there doing WG Front pulldowns, slow and strict with only 130 pounds and feeling every inch of the movement....i watched this guy across the gym on another lat machine. I couldn't help but laugh to myself at his form, or lack thereof. Not a small guy, but not an impressive body either really...but cleary VERY full of himself. He proceeded to attempt pulldowns with the entire stack. He used his entire weight to pull the bar down, and at the end of the movement his back was parallel to the floor...no exaggeration... silly!

You need Spybot Search & Destroy
What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)

You need to restore your hard drive to get rid of it all. Spybot & adaware are just bandaids.
