The 8-12 rep range is going to add mass to you. Don't worry though, muscle mass looks better than fat. In addition, that extra muscle mass will boost your metabolism constantly throughout the day and will make cutting the fat easier.
Diet is the #1 thing to consider when trying to cut. You have to decrease your caloric intake, plain and simple. Granted, increasing your caloric usage will help too, but diet is still the most important factor in cutting fat.
