I am about two and a half months out of reconstructive shoulder surgery. Does anyone have any tips on what i can do to re-gain my strenght as quick as possible. i will probably be compleatly released to my own devises on may 10th and i want to be able to get back to my old self of being able to bench 295 for sets of 4-5 i know that it is a while off seeing as i was strugling to do 165 for sets of 10 today. Any help would be welcome!!!

Is the 165 for 10 reps the Dr.s orders? In other words, is he ok with the weight you are using?

If so, I would say bench 3 times a week for like 3 sets x 8 reps on a "wave system. Something like this:

    Week 1
    Mon
    145 3x8

    Wed
    160 3x8

    Fri
    175 3x8

    Week 2
    Mon
    150 3x8

    Wed
    165 3x8

    Fri
    180 3x8

Then drop to twice a week:
    Mon
    155 3x8

    Fri
    185 3x8

Then get into a 5x5 program.
Do you want to get real strong?

I had a repair of a completely torn rotator cuff last august.

I am still recoving, but am up to 245 for 10, on the bench. I snapped it while maxing out, so I want to keep reps high in perpetuity.

Basically, I have just been training as normal, while eating well and using helpful supplements like MSM, chondroitin, glucosamine, l-carnosine, ALCAR and others.

If you are interested I could dig up a link to my recovery journal.

Keep your diet clean and get plenty of good protein. I also fear your going to push the shoulder to hard, kinda get that feeling looking at your post. Dont set ANY time limits for getting back to your prior strength, the last thing you want to do is re-injur it. Forget the doctor, he doesnt know your body. Only you do. If hes a surgeon then you probably know more about sports rehab then he does.

Patience is the key. Back off, enjoy your lifts, take your days off, and be patient. You have a whole life ahead of you...........take care..................Rich
