you basically do one weight on a set until failure.. and then immediatly go lighter and burn it out on that weight.
ex:
dumbell curls. say 25/10(hit failure) and then pick up the 15's..rep them out until failure... burnnnnnnn burnnnnnn burnnnnn![]()
dumb question, but what is a drop set? how is it performed?
thanks

You don't necessarily have to go till failure. It's simply the opposite of a pyramid. However, for some additional shock your can do it like jen says. Burn is right...
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Drop sets (or descending sets) are a great way to up the intensity every now and then. I like to call it "down the rack".
Try this: Down the Rack Dumbbell Curls
Warm up first, then start with dumbbells you can curl about 10 times strictly, say 50's, do as many as you can, then without resting grab the 45's and do as many as you can, then the 40's, 35's, etc. by the time you get to the 5's you'll be crying like a little girl.

I find that I can never really do dropsets properly, I rep out with the first set (usually 6-8), then I get 3-4 out of the next set, when I hit the second dropset I can usually only get 1 or 2. Maybe my muscular endurance sucks.
Peace.

Nope if you really go to failure on the heaviest one, that's what happens about half on the next couple then as it gets lighter the reps come up. Until sometime your just numb and could go on forever.
