8mph is a damn nice clip. What the hell would be heavy/fast for you?

3-5 would be slow. Anything at a run is not slow.

I think I can use some cardio now. I just had a barbecue, turned for a few minutes and the damn burgers caught on fire.
I managed to scrape most of the burnt crust off though. But I think its time to burn off those burnt burgers

fast is going at ten mph, i have a have to go pretty fast in order to get my heart rate going because i have been running for awhile.
rowing is hardcore i wish they had a rowing machine at my gym, at my old place i would do a hiit on the rowing machine, it was awesome,
i like how it says that running takes a lot of practice, makes sense that you have to do it often to get good at it but just sounds funny that you have to practice to run

i like mixing my longer runs with hiit cardio, cause sometimes motivation is hard to come by to do hiit, whereas i can run at 7-8 mph for awhile relatively easy

Yeah, that's a good point. All I can think is they mean it takes a lot of practice to run correctly thereby avoiding injury. I've heard of many runners who have had problems with their knees. I heard running on soft ground helps, which makes sense. Like running around the parimeter of a school on the lawn verses running on pavement.

I would like to hear more from people in regard to jogging. I am highly considering adding a 30 minute a day jogging program to my weight training schedule. I am in serious need of a cardio program. I used to ride my bike all the time, which I think really helped. Jogging seems like it would work much faster though.

i would say running is the best form of cardio available, you want to start light and work your way up just like any other exercise program, your legs will be sore the first couple times you start running. A key to running, like lifting weights is to always vary your routine, speed/distance/hills/time, keep mixing it up to keep the body guessing and to not get bored of doing
You live in Cali? Do you have close access to a beach, I love beach running in the morning when there is no wind, no people, and glassy sereme water. Running on the sand is much better then concrete or cement. For extra challenge when you work your way up you can also try running the soft sand, which is a great workout. After awhile you will get what they call runner's high, and you will want to do it more and more, if there are any runners out there, they know what i mean

    Thanks Aztec for your info...

Actually I am about an hour or so from the beach. The best surface I'm going to find locally is at the park where I can run along the perimeter on the lawn. I started my first step and that is walking. I walk for about 30 minutes now at night. After a month of that I will try to take that walking distance and jog the first half and walk the last. Then do that for a month. Then on my 3rd month I can hopefully graduate to full jogging for 30 minutes each night

You probably don't need to do it that gradually. Granted, it is a good idea to reduce the risk of injury, but when I was out of shape I went immediately back to jogging. I might've started out jogging for only 10 or 15 minutes, but I worked my way up to 30+ minutes within a couple of weeks.

I like morning powerwalks. It's not just good for me on a fatburning level, but it's really quite a spiritual exdperience for me that helps me stay on track in life. If I were to do some running in the AM, I might not always look forward to it and it might lead to skipping it and staying in bed. The powerwalks are never like that, I always get them done. Sometimes I'm more motivated and then I run instead or do sprints. But my powerwalks combined with higher intensity cardio like Spinning and of course weight training has given me really good results

I have never ran much but for a few weeks I ran and started to enjoy it but soon stopped after I started bulking and didn't want to do cardio. I may try it again instead of the bike.

One question though, lets say someone were to do cardio like 5 days a week....not that I do.....would it be best to do like 5 days of slow cardio then the next week do like 5 days of hiit or would it be better to mix them slow/hiit/slow/hiit/slow etc...? Or if you only did like 2-3 days of cardio should you mix them per week or per session?

5 days of hiit is a bit extreme, i usually do 1-2 days o hiit cardio, then maybe a day or two of traditional cardio to vary it during the week

distance running is going to lean you out. you'll be burning off fat, but muscle too.

compare the body of distance runners vs. sprinters. sprinters are ripped and distance runners are lean & lanky.
