    Unhappy Explosives/speed lifts

    Now, I've never really did these but I sort of know what they are. When I did speed lifts for my chest today, I felt cheated..really cheated. I've never done explosives, and I heard they are really good but I need to have someone make sure my form is ok. Explosive exercises and speed lifting is good for wrestling right? I did some research on speed lifting and they say you exert the same amount of force on a higher weight lifting at a regular speed then u do on a low weight at a fast speed. Im pretty confused about this and wondering if I should ditch the speed lift and keep the explosives?

    I say speed lifting sounds stupid. You need to take your time pushing the weight down and up.

    I remember my powerlifting coach always told me to reps the weight as explosive as possible without jeopardizing form. I never felt cheated though, we did 10 sets of just about every exercise on our routine, and after 10 sets you’re going to feel it.

    That statement is simply not true.

    Force=Mass x Acceleration

    How many reps are you doing in each set? There comes a point where speed work isn't really speed work anymore but more conditioning. And as for form, don't sacrifice form for speed or weight, keep it tight just like you would be doing when performing reps in a bodybuilding fashion...but make sure you are moving the weight as fast as you could throughout the whole lift. The reps should be no more than about 1 second long (the concentric portion that is).

    what's the difference between "speed lifts" and "explosive lifts"? I always thought they were one in the same.

    Explosive would to me imply only for a portion of the lift, speed lifting is speed the whole time. Explosive can then be slow negative, fast positive.

    I used to also think it was stupid, but it obviously has produced some big lifters. When you lift fast you still have to listen to your body, and you would want to be using a much lighter weight than normally.

    I would say try each method and see which one produces better results. I'm sure each training protocol has its place, but I can't tell you which one would be better for wrestling.
