    is westside for me?

I am just the average joe trying to put on some muscle/gain strength: would the westside barbell club method suit my needs or should I just stick to IM2 oR mAX-ot?

Westside if for pure powerlifting and strength. Granted, you will gain some muscle mass on this routine, but not to the same extent that you would with a program geared towards hypertrophy.

I train Westside, and while main goal is sheer strength, I still take increasing muscle density and size a priority. A lot of the acessory work is in the hypertrophic range anyhow. I say give it a shot, you never know unless you try.

I would definitely recommend it as well. It's basically training for strength with hypertrophy as an added bonus. I don't at all see how a "hypertrophy" based routine would cause one to develop muscle any quicker than Westside would.

It's just the same as how the Westside routine is more effective at adding strength. Certain rep ranges and training styles promote hypertrophy and hyperplasia more than others. Conversely, certain training styles promote increased strength more than others. As I said, you will gain mass using the Westside routine, but you will not gain as much mass as you would if your training was geared towards gaining mass.

Hyperplasia is not going to be induced by picking up a weight, you need some drugs for that kind of action. When you have completed puberty you are essentially going to live out the rest of your days with the same number of both fat and muscle cells. Hyperplasia does occur in fat cells of the morbidly obese however.

I was under the impression that hyperplasia took place in a natural bodybuilder as well, but I'll just chalk that up to another list of misconceptions that probably still needs to be weeded out of my knowledge banks. Despite this, the main idea behind my previous post still stands.
