    Becoming ACE certified?

Ok I am 19 years old in good shape and im VERY interested in getting ACE certified so i can do part time personal training. I was wondering how do I get started and do I have to have a degree or anything else to get ACE certified. I know i need a CPR certification and im going to have it soon so thats not a problem.

You don't need anything else. They make it really easy. Just go to the website, and they'll have an online registration.

Sounds like a good idea. The only problem I see for you is that, I don't know what it is like where you live, but in NYC most gyms don't want part time personal trainers because they want their trainers to generate a certain amount of revenue for them.

i just got registered in ACE... not exactly, its like 2 weeks ago... its easy, just go purchase the study manual from the site and they will send it to you in a few days... and when you are ready, register to take the test(which require $$$) and if you pass it youll get the cert... at least thats what i read..

I have heard that ACE is top notch if you want to teach classes (aka aerobics). I think ISSA and some others mentioned here (do a search) are worth checking into before deciding on ACE if personal training is your plan.

I think ACE requires that you have a Bachelors degree... I'm taking the test for ISSA next weekend.

This is an email that i wrote to the gym a few months back.

"I have a question that i would i ask, what certification for personal
trainer do someone require to apply for that particular field in the
    recreation centre?
Because there are tons of certification for personal trainer (e.g ISSA,
NFPT, ACE and etc). Hope to hear from you soon and thank you for your time."

This is what they replied me back.

"Thanks for your email - I apologize that it has taken me so long to get back
to you. For employment here at the rec center we recommend you get certified
by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), American College of Sports
Medicine (ACSM), or the National Strength and Conditioning Association
(NSCA). These are the most reputable certifing agencies nationally that have
excellent education as well as career development.

I hope this helps with your search - best of luck. Let me know if you have
    any additional questions regarding fitness."

I checked the site and it doesnt say anything about needing a BA. I'm pretty sure when I was shopping around for certs, ACE required it.

I personally would get certified through NASM or ACSM, but it's a personal preference. http://www.nasm.org/education/certification/courses.asp
