How much cardio in a week....wile cutting?

I'm concentrating on losing fat and I'm eating 4-5 small meals of greens and chicken and a protein shake or two depending on if I lift or not.

So how much cardio should I be doing?

First of all, your diet sounds off. You have the right idea, but you should go post it in the diet & nutrition forum for proper tweaking. Proper diet is going to make more a difference than any amount of exercise.

I usually try to do cardio on any day that I don't lift. I lift 4 days per week and play basketball 3 days per week. Some people do cardio 5-7 days per week while cutting, but it isn't necessary.

Let me revise my meal plan for ya.

meal 1: 100% whole wheat toast and low fat peanut butter or oatmeal
meal 2: Chicken and greens/pinto beans
meal 3: Protein shake
meal 4: Chicken and greens/pinto beans
meal 5: Chicken / Fish and greens
meal 6: Protein shake

To many carbs ya think? I'm trying to lose the fat and not burn up a bunch of muscle.

Doesn't look like too many carbs IMO, but some people are more sensitive than others. Your first meal needs some protein though. Do you like eggs?

Your diet plan needs a lot of work. Post that in the diet & nutrition forum. Good ol' Jodi will whip it into shape for you.

many people will argue that you can cut with no cardio at all if your diet is in check.

I would recommend anywhere from 3 x 30 minutes all the way up to 5 x 45 minutes. STart out with less and gradually add more when your results slow.

Also...IMO...don't do HIIT...just my opinion...please don't jump on me for this...I have experience...and have competed several times...I prefer moderate intensity for greater durations.

Searching for the right balance...
