Building Mass and Cardio?

I am trying to get huge and many people have been telling me that I shouldn't be doing any cardio at all because I'd be working against my goal of getting big. I currently just run only about 1 mile a day 5x/week when I go to the gym. People are even telling me I should just drive or walk to the gym instead.

Is it okay to do cardio? If so how much should I be doing a week?

Some stats on myself:
Age:22
Height:5'10"
Weight: 160

When I am buking I like to keep it to one or two days a week of 15-20min. HIIT sprints if it is on off weight training days or 20-30min of moderate intensity cardio if it falls on weight lifting days.

Can anyone explain the mechanics behind this? I would really like to understand how cardio causes problems with bulking so that I can make a decision if I need to change my workout routine.

For reference:
I am very overweight (24% bf) and I am trying to cut fat and build muscle at the same time (yes, I know). I am in decent shape for a hippo (press 235, can run 2 miles). I have been trying to bulk as much as possible with the idea that more muscule means more calories burned means more fat loss. Typically I do 7 minutes cardio warmup, a 1.5 hour work out, and 30 minutes cardio 3 days a week and 30 minutes cardio on 3 other days.

Thanks
