why does my body feel like this?

Its been about week 4 of my hard training. All of a sudden my body just feels thick, and not thick as in muscle, almost like an overall bloat. I am sore as hell too! I know I am producing more muscle, I see it as I am working out, but am I gaining fat too? My diet is very clean, but since I started training hard I have been making sure to eat all through out the day, lots and lots of lean protein!! Is my body gaining b/c previously I had not consumed so much food? I feel like I am getting just thicker all around, even in my butt! ha! Is this all normal or am I going crazy???

anywhere from 1700-2200 cals a day. The only kind of supplements: fish oil, soy protein shakes.

your diet doesnt seem to be a source of "fattening you up", if it is "clean" like you say it is. we really cant tell what kind of mass you're putting on, thats something youll have to judge yourself. you could buy a set of calipers to monitor your body fat index. calipers are not the most accurate ever, but they give you a good idea, and if you suddenly jump up 5% itll tell you that the real question here, though, is how does it look? ive put on 30+ pounds w/ most of it being muscle, a little fat, but id rather have that tad extra fat than still be a twig.

I guess what I am wondering is after you work out and push your muscles hard, does your body kind of swell? Because thats what I felt like all day yesterday. I am female so I am sure some hormonial things are going on as well. But I didnt know if this is what is or isnt supposed to be happening??? Thanks on the caliper advice. Where can I get it?

yeah, they will fill with blood when youre done. on a good tricep day for me i walk out of the gym feeling like my triceps extend 12" back from my arms. muscles always fill with blood when theyre being worked, generally referred to as a "pump" now only if they would stay that size instead of shrinking a few hours later..........

as per the calipers, you should be able to find them at a fitness store.

Water retention could be part of it. Also, I have heard eating more carbs can cause bloating in some cases.
