yes it is possible...diet plays the biggest part but some high-rep non-weighted ab exercises would help a lot. can you not do any type of crunch, etc. ?
It's really hard for me to do ab work (do to IBS), is it possible to get flat abs without working them? My diet is pretty good. I can't follow high protein (also because of IBS), but my food choices and calories are good.
Thanks

I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

yeah, I would think you could at least do a crunch.
crunches are the hardest actually
Im getting a stability ball so hopefully that will help
I still think you should get a second opinion and look at options, I have IBS as well and I don't have these issues you speak of.Originally Posted by Katia7

a crunch is simply where you lie flat and "flex" your abs, if you cannot manage that than I cannot see how you could do any ab exercise.Originally Posted by Katia7

IBS is very individual for every person. Also, although traiditional Drs call this IBS, my holistic Dr said that what I have is not really IBS but more of that my body is just not functioning right (we're in the process of fixing things)
The reason I can't do ab work, is because it makes my stomach feel even more uncomfortable. Crunches hurt my back. I try to get some kickboxing in whenever my stomach feels ok, since that works the abs.
"Holistic" Dr. Alright, now that explains itMaybe you need to strengthen and stretch your lower back more. But crunches shouldn't stress your back that much if using proper form.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...
What about exercises like planks? Or Pilates and yoga work? Those will help to strengthen the abdominal and core area, and traditional yoga may even be helpful for your internal issues. (You'd be best to find an experienced and careful teacher, though, who could make certain that you get the postures correctly and adapt them if necessary.)
As for "flatness", is that because your abdominal muscles lack tone, or is it because there's internal bloating from your IBS-a-like? In which case, no amount of working the abs will give you a flat stomach. I know someone who had problems with her gut that were similar to IBS. Her stomach noticeably popped out, to the point that she looked slightly pregnant, and it didn't go away until the medical condition had been successfully brought under control.
