Depressed mood is one of the first signs. There are other symptoms like loss of appetite/weight loss/loss of strength/no desire to train/inability to get a good pump...ect.

Overtraining can have many symptoms.... lack of appetite, lethargy, decreased workout poundages, weight loss, etc.

Adequate rest (this includes sleep and relaxing activities, including days off from the gym at a time) and nutrition (plenty of protein and quality carbs and fats) have much to do with how well you recover and how fast you recover (and of course your own genetics have something to do with it too).

I would recommend everyone take a week off every 6 months anyway just incase... that way you atleast get a little recovery.

I don't train hard, eat right, and do the things I do for others. I do it for myself.

....did I mention the ladies too???

Most training programs advocate you take a break every 8-10 weeks for one full week. Unless your training with AAS, working out without a break for 6 months straight, for MOST people, will be serious overtraining.

What do people do on their weeks off anyway? I've always wondered what bodybuilders do on their weeks off. Do you do active rest routines or do you just sit around?

Peace.

I recommend 7 days off after 3 weeks of HARD training..! During that week I keep a pretty good diet, but one night I might eat a greasey pizza..!

Eat/party/relax/recover mentally/physically. If you have been training hard for 3-4 months you almost always comeback stronger and refreshed after a week off...just keep your protein intake high.
