Thinking of switching to less weight/more reps... suggestions?

For the past 2 months or so I've been lifting in a 5 set / 8 rep manner, moving up the weight each time until I really couldn't take anymore.

But lately I've been wondering if this is the best idea. I want to put on mass, but I want it to be lean mass, because I'm 16, 5'9'' and already 170 lbs. I think my body fat percentage is about 15%. That's what my electrode scale usually says, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Anyway, how would switching my workout to more reps/ less weight affect me? As time goes on I learn more and more about body building, and lately I've come under the impression that if you're already somewhat big, less weight and more reps is what you should do.

I am really looking to cut body fat.

PS: I do cardio 3-4 days a week (3 mile runs)

Everyone is different so even though there will be others that say "no way, dont do it" I can tell you that I respond better to higher reps.
