Cardio with an empty stomach...

I have been in this forum for the better part of 6 days now. But I have been reading for more than a month.
I have seen many saying that cardio is best early in the morning with an empty stomach. This being the case, I need to see what your opinions are.
What are the drawbacks to doing cardio in the afternoon or in the evening as it's compared to mornings with an empty stomach?
The reason for asking is that my mornings usually are pretty hectic with the kids and work, etc., that I have just enough time to shower and shave before taking the kids to my mother in law's house (great grandma baby sits).
I am not looking for an excuse to not do it in the morning. In fact, if I see that the advantages of doing it in the morning far outweigh those of doing it at night, I'll get up 1/2 hour earlier, but just in case, if ya'll have opinions in the matter, I'd rather listen to what you have to say before I make myself wake up earlier...
Thank you all in advance...

I can tell you only what works for me. It's tried and proven on myself. I've tried other methods, but none work like this one. I do this when I want to get seriously cut, and go to the next level. I do cardio about 15 mins after I wake up, I get my water and warm my body up for a couple minutes. I get on the elliptical machine and go moderately for about 20 to 25 mins. This I do 3 times a week for about 2 to 3 months tops. Needless to say the diet gets kicked up to the next level also. I take 1 1/2 grams of protein per lb of body weight, carbohydrates are all slow burning (low glycemic), except for the refeed every 4 to 5 days, fats I take about 25 to 30 grams a day.
