Rows

Just wondering when performing seated rowing, should I keep my back straight or should I move my back with the flow of the row?

I keep my back at about 20% from perpendicular to the floor, and concentrate on not moving it. It seems to be working, no pain, injuries or anything.

This is always a classic move to watch the meat-heads butcher in the gym. Basically pivoting from the hips as they rock the weight back and forth, using every muscle but their back. God forbid someone actually did this exercise without racking the machine.

You should keep your back still.

I move a bit. I feel it is neccessary to reduce the sheering forces placedon the spine when forced to stay in a neutral position and hold weight out at arms length. Also, slight movement alows you to be more explosive. Keep your back straight, flat and tight.

I also move a bit, I would rather do a heavy negative instead of doing heavy arm work on the positive.

I dont fully extend my arms. I tend to lock them at about 10degress (elbows pointing to the floor)

I kinda do something complimentary to rows too though. I will use the rope, and have the nuatilus in the 2nd from the top position. (i'm 5'11"). I stand back about 6' from the base of the machine, and do "standing rows" . I lean back far enough that my legs and the rope coming down make a 90 degree angle. I start out with palms facing down, and finish with them facing up at full contraction. This seems to be very effective (for me). I've never seen anybody doing anything similar. And people stare at me funny when I'm doing them. Maybe i'm just weird looking But my lats do seem to grow pretty fast, and I 'just' started recently doing more pull ups/chin ups. Now I feel like I can do pull ups forever . I'm going to start weighing myself down soon I think.

I also move a little bit but not enough to really help with the weight, makes my lower back feel much better when I kind of go with the movement. If I don’t move, my lower back really start to feel the weight.

Had he said "you dont need lats to do pull ups"... I would have said something.

Wide grip Chin Ups/Pull Ups are not needed for lats?

Pardon my ignorance. I know the arms are heavily incorporated in it.

You dont need pullups for lats, I know one powerlifter who can't do them without shoulder problems. I do maybe one set of pulldowns, thats it right now, everything else is a row of some sort.
