Question Yoga on Off-Days?

I been thinkin of taking up some yoga to help with my strethcy-ness . I was considering doing it on my off-days. As far as I can tell yoga isn't too intense (unless, i suppose, your doing an advanced session or something) and isn't too stressful for the muscles to affect their repair on those days.

Plus wouldn't it help in the long run...somehow?

Why not yoga everyday?

Definitely a good idea, but dont think yoga isnt intense. I dont think it will interfere with your recovery. If anything, it'll help recovery a bit.

Depending on the type of yoga, it can be quite intense. For example, Ashatanga yoga is faster paced and there is a lot of lifting/supporting your own body weight.

Yoga and/or Pilates(what I do) are excellent additions to your training they may "look easy" but dont be fooled!

I was doing yoga 1-2 times a week for about a year and a half. I was AMAZED by how difficult it is. It's not just stretching. Most poses require strength and control...and flexibility is a huge part of it. I cant wait till my work schedule changes and I cant take another class.

wow so cool, ima try it.

And i didn't mean to upset, i realize there is some crazy-hard yoga out there but i was more meaning the yoga that is mostly stretching.

So, any good websites i should check out? I have OnDemand with my cable and there are some yoga programs that you can select for free so I'ma check them out but i also want to learn more about yoga. Thanks all.

You are certainly right about pilates - my lesson this morning has left me utterly shattered... This is studio pilates, I think matt pilates is actually pretty soft but studio work is excellent.

i went to a yoga class a couple years ago and didn't really enjoy it...

to me it was just a whole lot of uncomfortable stretching... i can see why it can be good in terms of developing flexibility, but i just don't think it's for me...

I think yoga is great between workouts. I know it's bad, but it is the only time I get any stretching in. It also calms my mood swings down.

I've done yoga for years, flexibility is important, but adaptions for stiff people are always permissable. Yoga is really about concious breathing and movement. The secret to success in yoga is understanding how breathe links your conciousness ot your body.

After doing yoga for about a month, I realized how important the breathing is. I think I was to busy learning the movements in the beginning. (I only act blond sometimes).

hey just wondering does Yoga help you develop flexibility or you have to be very flexible from the beginning itself?
