I started when I was 11 and I grew to 6'2", I do not believe in it stunting your growth at all. Steroids yes, lifting no.

i also started lifting at 11, and im 5'11". youre only 14, many males have growth spurts as late as 18-20 years old! my brother grew an inch or 2 at 18 years old. what do your parents look like? if theyre both tall, its unlikely you will stay at 5'4". dont sweat it... just try to stay healthy and you will probably grow more.

Well I've been lifting for about 2 years now... and I have shot up from 5'9 to 6'3 now and I'm only 16. If anything, weight-training made me grow more , considering my parents are both under 6 foot as well as my grandparents.

I don't train hard, eat right, and do the things I do for others. I do it for myself.

....did I mention the ladies too???

as true as that is i wouldn't expect to be 6 feet tall unless any of your parents are tall and had late growth spurts, but then again David Robinson grew something like 9 inches when he was in college, man he came in as a guard and left as a center

My kids have been lifting for a few years. I don't know how great the gains are before puberty, but lifting during puberty is a monstrous edge. The gains are freakish.
The New England Journal of medicine published a article on it and the upshot was that its great for kids. Makes them strong and resistant to injury. They said that kids can start lifting about the same time they are able to take the trash out by themselves.

Really cause my boy has been taking out the trash for the last year and a half, including draggin the cans out once a week to the curb, but I doubt it would be good for him to be lifting weights at 8.

I state this for because it is something that I do in fact wonder about. He has been, in fact, begging to lift weights with me for a year. He has been in taekwondo for 3 years and he wants to make his legs stronger for competition. From everything i have read it is pointless for him, and could be damaging for him at this age, yet what you said above sort of contradicts that. Should we then say if the kid is big enough to handle some of the heavier chores he is capable of lifting, light of course? He is rather large for his age, 5' and 95 lbs.
