    Ellipitical Trainer

I went out yeterday and bought an ellpitical trainer, it's was only $70 so I thought, why not. My plan is to do a HIIT form of skipping for 20 mins 1 day, then the next day do 15mins of HIIT on the ellipitical trainer followed by 5 minutes of coolling down on it the next day, and repeat. Anyways I tries it out today and I got alot better workout than skipping, and it said I went 4.06 Miles, but the strange thing is, is that it said I only burnt 142 calories (It dosen't have any system where to put in your weight) while The calories counter on my skipping rope says I burn 200 calories when I skip (The skipping rope has something that you put in your weight.) So then I went into Fitday to record my activities and there was no elliptical trainer there so I just used running for 5mph (cause thats all you basically do on the ellpictical trainer, is running right?), and filled out the thing, 4.06 miles in 20 minutes but that said That I burnt 327 calories, so I came back to this sight and used the online calorie thing here and it said the exact same thing that i burnt 327 Calories. So which one should I follow, the ellipitcal calories counter or the fitday/one here calorie counter?

    Tom_B,

I hate to say this to you, but what did you expect for $70?

I went ahead and purchased a more expensive model that includes a very interactive panel and also a wireless heart-rate monitor that goes around your chest:

And that one was still cheap compared to the really high-end ones that go for $3k-$4k.

I say forget about the calorie counting, do you feel like yo got a good workout, then that's what counts.

lol lucky bastard I was I had that :P.
I bought it because they were selling the exact same model at wal-mart for $200, god I'm cheap.
But Ya I got a really good workout from it, my legs almost gave out on me, I'll probably need a week before i get use to it, that's about as long it took my calves to get use to skipping.

I know..but in my mind cardio is non negotionable to me. In my mind I'm always telling myself I NEED to do cardio, if I don't gain any weight I'll just have to increase my calories more untill I do, and I'll just get myself more calorie dense foods so I'm not as bloated all the time.

You don't need to to HIIT more than 3x a week. if you are doing HIIT correctly or all at you can burn out your CNS by doing it too often...

    more isn't always better
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

You might want to increase the calorie intake by 30% or more per meal to adjust for the cardio then.

Ya thats what i figured I'll probably have to eat more, with all the cardio I do.
what's your CNS? When I do skipping I roughly base it on HIIT, I skip for 250 turns then I walk in place bringing my knees up to my chest and turning my side so I get a ab workout for one minute then I repeat that for 4-5 sets.
