Last thing I read said it was not a good idea due to cortisol flowing through the body from the previous workout. I've done it in the past when doing more volume, but really as of now my workouts dont require it, I lift heavy and low volume.

I've heard that it can be beneficial to do one muscle group earlier in the day and another one later. However, I don't know the reasoning behind this.

I'm pretty sure Arnold worked out twice a day, so I guess I can't knock it.

It's not for me, though. I'm far too lazy to work out twice a day.

Just do it 8 to 10 hours apart, don't work out the same muscles, eat right after each work out, and drink a lot of water.

I love training in the AM & PM. I can go all out on each bodypart w/o having to save anything.

As Mudge stated for some cortisol may be an issue. I think that would only effect those with low T counts. For most a decent insulin spike after each training session will sufficiently lower serum cortisol levels...

I don't see a problem with it. Done it myself. Just be sure your diet is in order and listen to your body!

One more thing - What kind of intensity are we talking here?

Id say the only time to do it is on a day with a major muscle group and a minor one (chest and biceps) etc.... ive done it a few time when i was pressed for time.

Since when are chest and biceps NOT a major muscle group. I think they both are. Minor would be forearms and calves, simple headed muscles.

Biceps are much, much smaller than calves. (and much less resilient).

Wouldn't being a natural bb and not a natural bb also be an issue when considering training twice per day?

Energy, giving 100% instead of 100% for your first muscle group then 95% for your next. Based on that alone it sounds like a spankin good idea, if you have the time to go back and forth to the gym that much.

I only have 2 x 15kg dumbells at home (a nd a couple of lighter weights) so I have a fast high intensity burn during my lunch for 30min (gym 10min's walk from office)... working whatever grp I need to that day... when i get home, I rest a little, have an easy night, play with my kid and then put in another 30-60min with the dumbells before I shower and hit the sack.

The night routine is a lot different from the day's. The day routine almost always leaves me panting. I try not to rest between sets... but if I feel I NEED to rest a bit, I go to another machine and work another grp while the first is trying to recover. Eg, while arms are burning and not ready for another set, I move to the sit-up bench or the back-raise platcorm-thing (sorry forthe technical language )... after 30reps there, arems are ready for another set... and I'm able to go to exhaustion each time...

When home, the 15kg dumbells, get put through very slow movements... It's almost a meditative thing for me... just to see how slow I can go and how deep. and I focus hard on maintaining form.

It's been only 3mths, but it's been great. I look forward to a lot more of this!

Exactly. I remember once when I was going to school, I would get a chance to work out 2x per day and I know I got trememdous results. I ate what I wanted and when I wanted too. The reason Im dieting now is that I only work out 4 times per week due to work and more school.

I also remember a friend of mine who never took any supplements, ate mexican food all day, worked out 6 days a week, and still got big and cut. Neither of us even knew about protein powders, much less anything else in those days. Upon reflection, Im starting to think that all this macro this and macro that, and body part this and body part that is for the birds.

you can alternate between heavy days and "light" days. the light days being the days were you use 60% of the working loads that you used on the heavy days. this keeps micro trauma in skeletal muscle to a minumum. basically the light days will now be active recovery training sessions...

I always thought that higher cortisol release was due to a long time training. So, two 30 minutes workout seems to me better than one 1 hour workout. No? Like someone said above it depends of the intensity.
