what's your max on overhead press?

How much can you press overhead (standing) with a barbell?
I do sets with 90lb + bar. So I guess my 1 rep max would be around 105lb.

    Your turn.

I do 205 pounds 9 times, seated. I don't stand to avoid hyperextending my spine. I have no idea what my 1rm is.

That's not good news. Doing the exercises standing, I'd sometimes use my legs to help propel the weight up. I'd find myself extending my back, and my form would suffer. Is doing them seated dangerous?

no, not dangerous, I usually do them seated, I was just saying that since you made it sound like seated was better than standing for your spine.

seated my max is 340 behind the neck, in front I never maxed out but can do my bodyweight, same with the push-press...
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Standing I can do 4 sets of 135x5. By the online calulators I should be around 160ish, which would put me at bw for overhead press.

I dont do them standing, when I did I was working with 175-185 for sets sometime around a year ago. Seated I got up to 235x4 or 5, front press, now I dont do those either.

I stand while doing military press only because I get much more out of them, or atleast thats what I think.

    I use a belt aswell.

This trainer at the place I workout at said the belt actually put more pressure on all the wrong areas and suggested I forget using the belt. My back sort of aches when I don't use the belt, and feels fine when I do, so I recently went right back to using the belt.

Is there any truth to a lifting belt actually putting too much stress on all the wrong places?

I know that using a belt will prevent you from developing key stabilizers, and if you stop you very well might injure yourself.

So you recommend I stop using the belt and I go back to what made my back ache and pain?

I would recommend training your back and abs so that it doesn't bother you, and that you stop doing things that do bother you. I've had back issues from time to time thanks to a soccer coach who decided to boot me in the back when I was 11 years old, I haven't had an episode in over a year.

so if you do them behind the neck its gonna hit the posterior (back part) deltoid better?

Well then... that school would need to be burnt down.... errr did I say that out loud?

Those were the "good ole days" where they could get away with that kind of stuff. If it happened today, they would be brought down hard. If the cops could could find their bodies after he kicked my kid, and they covered it up.
