Everyone says do this, and do that, but to me you got to do what you feel comfortable doing. If you feel comfortable doing 12 reps, do 12 reps, 10 reps, do 10 reps.
I still think its best to add weight and decrease reps as you move through your sets, but again whatever your comfortable with, especially if your a beginner.
You will do best by varying your reps a bit. This can be done in cycles or even within the same workout. Go as low as 4 reps and as high as 15. Stick mostly with free weights and the more basic movements. Your most important key is consistency in doing your workouts, not OVERdoing anything, getting enough sleep/rest and eating enough quality calories to support mass gains.

IMO 8-10's best, increase the resistance when you can do 12 reps. Using lower reps and higher weights hurts my tendons and doesn't give me the same burn, but you'll have to try both and see which is hitting the muscles better. I'd stick with the one that works better, though another possibility for variety is to do alternate workouts using higher then lower reps.
pile the weight on so you might get 8-10 on your first two sets then the last two you might only get 6-8 i all ways go to fail!
