How is your form? Doing deadlifts or pretty much any exercise with bad form can strain your back. Bad form is mostly caused by trying to use too heavy of a weight; if you can't get the weight up without twisting and turning then use a lower weight.
Otherwise if it's not bad form, I know that if you train your abdominals and make them stronger then you might be able to alleviate some of the back pain over time. But when doing weighted crunches, make sure you use good form as to not strain your back...
