    really bad back pain plz help

    ok I get this really bad pain in the lower back when I lay down lets say in my bed or in the floor or in a bench when doing chest exercises , after 5-10 seconds the pain is gone but its not a really nice feeling, I have been working out for 1 year and a half now or so and first time this ever happens to me, any suggestions?

    How is your form? Doing deadlifts or pretty much any exercise with bad form can strain your back. Bad form is mostly caused by trying to use too heavy of a weight; if you can't get the weight up without twisting and turning then use a lower weight.

    Otherwise if it's not bad form, I know that if you train your abdominals and make them stronger then you might be able to alleviate some of the back pain over time. But when doing weighted crunches, make sure you use good form as to not strain your back...

    Get your feet off the floor when your benching. Rest them on the bench or get a stool for them and flatten your back to the bench when lifting. You'd also be best off doing a dedicated low back/stomach series of floor exercises prior to lifting........take care..................Rich

    Guys he also said he gets lower back pain when he is in bed, not just lifting! Sounds to me there might be an injury there... I'd check it out just in case.

    Get a scan at your doc's. Could be a herniated disk or just a serious muscle spasm. Whatever you do, go easy on your lower back, don't ice it - use heat instead. Try to get some flexeril or perscription ibuprofin from the doc. Take 1-2 weeks off from lifting (or at least avoid deads and squats) and see if you can get a couple lower back strengthening excercises from a chiroproactor. I've been through this twice now and the right care/precautions make a huge difference in recover time.

    Hey SRC, I assume you had a herniated disk? If yes, how long did it take you to go back to deadlifts after the injury? Are you fully recovered now?

    is it a sudden pain like that of a pinch nerve, i had a herniated L5 disk that caused a pinch nerve, i had surgery for it about 5 years ago.
    Also I don't advise you on putting your feet up on the bench while benching

    Why not, Aztec? I always do that as i was under the impression that it prevented one from arching their back while benching, thus reducing cheating as well as back strain.

    Sometimes i place one ankle over the other and hold knees at 90deg thus avoiding the use of lower back while benching. Correct me if i am wrong, but I thought this was a good way to do it.
