hey, i have a friend who will be joining my gym. he'll probly get a trainer to help him, but not today. i think im gonna start him on a full body workout that is really light, as i dont want him to get hurt. im gonna tell him to go really light and make sure he has good form, and have him do 3 sets of each of these. (aiming for 10-12 reps, in this order)
i figure these are the basics that i did when i was doing circuit training. and i dont really wanna add more exercises, cuz i dont want him to get discouraged. im gonna have him do the squats early, cuz i wanna make sure he still has some energy as not to screw up his form.
should i have him do 2 sets of each to start? or stay with 3? that is 18 sets total.... but at only 3 sets per body part that doesnt seem like all that much. i dont wanna spend way too much time on this, as he'll probly get a different program when he works with a trainer. im going to the gym in like 2-3 hours so a quick response is greatly appreciated.
What are your freinds goals? Clearly if your on a bodybuilding website, you should know to stay away from full body workouts and steer him away from getting in this routine.
I am still learning how to teach people in the gym, but a start is not to let a person new to the gym do something worthless and that will waste his time.
If you don't get results in the first month, which you probably won't from doing three sets of all the basic things, your freind is going to probably fall off the map when it comes to lifting weights.
There are people that love to lift, and Im one of them, Im sure you are to, but unless your freind falls under this category you should get him going right away with a routine you think fits him best or maybe even following your routine to its entirety.
