There are very few threads asking how much you can squat because as much as I hate to say it, people don't view legs as highly as they do there upper body.

With that being said, there are some cases, me included, who do relatively light sets to protect my back.

i don't really like these types of posts but you have to set a standard of depth. I squat ass to the grass, anything else is a half squat.

how do you expect to really strengthen the low back by going light all the time ?
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

ATG is the way to fly. I never trust what people say their numbers are in these type of threads unless I see them actually do it. To many people are delusional and what they consider to be a "real squat" is nothing more than a little crouch. When I squat there is no question on the depth. Yan too.

I agree P. A lot of people overfabricate the truth. Just like on a softball forum I'm on they say they hit 3 or 4 Hrs a game. Some people are telling the truth others are over compensating.

When my back feels up to it, well naturally I go right back to the heavy, but that usually results in the week ahead of using an advil before I lift.

I think these type of threads are stupid. The amount of weight that each of us do doesn't matter. It's how you do it and how smart you do it.

Also we are all different with different genetics. Some are stronger in areas that others are not. So why bother with these types of threads anyway?

Going half way down or in other words, doing a squat completely wrong I'd presume.

LOL, yup, it's rare that I even see anyone do a full squat! I see guys load the bar up with too much weight and do this little knee bend thing and wonder what do they really think they're accomplishing?

There is a guy at my gym who throws on 450+ on the smith machine, and then literally lifts it off the hooks barely takes his knees out of a locked position, and then puts it back on the hooks. Then walks around like he is the shite.

And he always ends up doing it, right next to me, when I have my little weights going all the way down. It irritates the hell out of me, and have imagined his death several times.

I can squat just under 600 pounds in a manner accepted by a judge in my sport.

does that qualify in most people's minds?
    yay.

    Bench 275X2 (never maxed out)
    Deadlift 325 X 1
    Squat 340 X 5 (never maxed out)

Not sure why my deadlift is so weak...

As for the squat, i go until my thighs are parallel to the ground...

I squat a couple of VW bugs joined by a 1.5 foot diameter solid steel bar... (I just think that's a funny image).

Seriously though, I used to do full squats at about 250. Then I sprained my ankle and my legs really suffered because all I could do for several weeks was leg extensions and curls (Bah). I'm probably about back to normal, but I haven't maxed since then.

For some reason I do more weight ass to grass than I do PL style... I'm sure that will change as my body adapts to the newer motion(It has already begun to), but until then that will just be another anomaly in my lifts. Like how I can bench press more the wrong way than PL style, and I can bench press more than I can squat.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
