    Isolate different parts of chest?

Hummmm I used to think a muscle cant be isolated in differnet ways, but then it wouldnt explain this.

While sitting/standing up right and if you place your left finger on the bottom of your right pec and push your right arm outwards in front of you (like a no weight seated bench press), you will feel the lower part of your pec slightly contract but if you then extend your arm downwards (move hand diagonly downwards while seated or standing), you will feel a much fuller contraction in your lower pec.

Try to simulate a standing/seated bench pressing movement with your elbow/arm plane of motion.

Also if you do a diagnal extension upward you will not feel hardly any contaction in your lower pec.

I'm absolutely positive this has been covered about 800 times in the last month. Dig up the old threads. I've already explained why you feel what you described.

Not all the fibers of a muscle fire or are called on to work at once.

Probably anterior deltoid and pec minor at work.

There is no lower/upper/inner/outer pec, only pec major and pec minor. Two different muscles.

Motor unit recruitment is a function of muscular tension, not of joint angle. If the MU's at the inner part of the chest aren't contracted, then neither are the ones at the outer part. Same applies to upper and lower or whatever other mysterious parts of the chest we're discussing. Or any muscle for that matter.
    yay.

yup, and that is exactly why people think that they can isolate a specific regions of a muscle.

muscles grow as a whole, plain and simple.

I also belive you can isolate your inner lower upper part of your bicep if you do a curl on a upside down preacher bench using a high cable pully and twist inwards at the contraction part of the motion while tilting your body outwards......

But seriously now it still puzzels me what I am feeling, I have read and understood what all methods try to preach.

Actually I read in my iron man encyclopedia that their are 3 different angles you can hit the muscle (not to be confused with suppinated and reverse grip) 1. Over head 2. Over chest and 3. behind your torso. Each angle puts more stress on different heads of the muscle. The example the book made was of the triceps:
Overhead Tricep French Press Over Chest Skull Crushers Cable Rope Pulldowns.

Just something I thought I'd share if that has anything to do in relation with this topic

it's not relevant, we're not talking about different heads of a muscle group, i.e. 3 heads of the tricep, we're talking about different regions of a single muscle.

Oh pooey, to bad, I can post whatever I want, doesn't matter what your talking about. Tough stuff bubba

Just playing, whats the difference. It has to do wtih the relation of working different parts of a MUSCLE. I can see if I started talking about how I want my legs to get bigger and how I pick my nose between sets, and eat them to restore my glycogen levels, but I didn't, so whats the big deal. Is this a dictatorship or a democracy. I have the free will to post whatever I want, finger cuff me. I'm sick of people telling other people off on forums. because it had absolutely nothing to do with our discussion in this thread, we are not talking about the individual heads of a muscle group, we are talking about isolating different regions of a single muscle.

I never "told you off", and you can post whatever the hell you feel like, but if it is irrelevant or incorrect be prepared to get a response telling you so.

This argument grows tiresome. Someone should throw ALL these debates into their signature as links. And anytime someone chooses to bring this shit up, they can go over the old threads and decide foir themselves. Science or perception.

    its simple!

different exercises/movements hit different parts of the muscle more than others...

e.g. declines work the lower chest, inclines work the upper chest, or side lat raise hits the side lats, front lat raise hits the front lats

    dose that answer your question??

btw i'm not saying by doing 1 of these it will cause part of the muscle to grow bigger than the rest, as like prince has said muscles grow as a whole, but to stimulate maximum growth all areas should be hit, hence a chest routine of presses, inclines and dips would work better than just doing incline presses

    thats my opinion anyway

Not true. I just posted in another thread this week the way motor unit recruitment works. It's a fact about the human body.

I've also described and answered the question as to why you "feel" something and why some things create the appearance of something, when the underlying event is wholly different.

I'm not going to repeat them here as I've posted this stuff about 7 times this week alone.
