    Arnold and Ronnie's Lats

Take a look at this picture.

Why is it, in a front double bi pose, that Arnold's lats look like a continuous arc, from under the armpit to his waist, while Ronnie's upper lats stick out.

I realize everyone has different genetics/shape, which is prob. the main reason.

But it just seems to me that guys of back then had better lat sweeps. Maybe its b/c they had such small waists compared to nowadays? Now the GH gut takes away from their v-taper?

IMO besides GH gut, Arnold lucked out in a HUGE way asthetically, JMO. Nobody at the top of the pro level has done a vacuum pose since Haney I believe.

IMO Steve Reeves had the greatest V-taper ever..most here probably disagree but I think it was just incredible.

I do not think anyone would disagree that Arnold's genetics were one in a million, but as far as pros today doing a vacuum pose, how could they? the majority of them have such swollen guts I do not think they could if they wanted to. when you see them relaxed, even in competition condition, they look pregnant.

What is the cause of GH belly??..is it their organs growing/or is it just that their abs and midsection are so heavily muscled??

Honestly, I don't like the modern standards of bodybuilding. I don't think that the judges award asthetically pleasing builds as much as they should. I thought bodybuidling was about achieving the perfect human physique. Now, it seems more like it's about achieving monstrous size. Oh well, to each his own.

That was pretty much my point, they can't show a freaky V with a 60 inch chest and a 38 inch gut

Andreas Munzer was doing 20iu of GH ED, so I am curious as to at what level this occurs. Rumor says that Ron is using north of 30iu ED

nor do I, they need to start counting points against GH gut like they are supposed to according to their judging criteria, also if they start awarding an aesthetically pleasing physique rather than the "mass monsters" the judges could help change bodybuilding. but as long as the freaks keep winning that is the look that will dominate bodybuilding.

I think a Lee Labrada physique is much more impressive than a Ronnie Coleman physique, although I admit I am anxious to see Ronnie in person to get the full effect of how HUGE he is.

i completely agree with everything Robert said - but i think the fans LIKE seeing massive freaks more than aesthetic physiques. (or at least have come to expect it)

I agree totally with Labrada's physique being more impressive than Coleman's..If anyone can change bodybuilding it is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Steve Reeves wrote an open letter to Arnold several yrs ago about the state of modern bodybuilding. It is an interesting read if you never read it before.

Agreed. I certainly respect Ronnie's size too. It has taken a lot of dedication for him to achieve that size. However, I still stand by my statement. I certainly believe that freakish size is worth something, but it doesn't top off my list.

IMO genetics are kinda overrated. hear me out before you guys blow up first...

obviously Arnold had a good muscle building genetics, and great shape genetics. But IMO many people could achieve close to his physique IF they did ALL of the following:
    1)trained as hard as him
    2)juiced as much
    3)ate as much

ALLS the guy did was bodybuild. that was his life. he never had a real job. he didnt worry bout bills (weider paid for everything).
he woke up, juiced, ate, trained, ate, napped on the beach, ate, trained, ate, banged hot chicks, sleep. day in and day out, thats all he knew.

obviously good muscle building genetic will make the journey much easier. but lets take you, Robert, for example. if you were him back then, trained with the same exact intensity, juice and food, i think you'd be a pretty BIG mofo

as far as nowadays and how they stray away from aesth. and towards the monsters, i guess it could go either way.

TRUE fans appreciate a great aesth. physique like Dex Jackson's at last year's O. The guy was AWESOME. his waist was tiny, he was big, hard and shredded, with a great v taper and ripped abs.

but at the same time, EVERYONE wants to see Ronnie and how UNBELIEVABLE he is....

    Right, Premo?

I mean, anyone could have bad genetics. but you know what? if you train as hard as you can, eat right, juice like a madman and sleep enough, ANYONE can get big.

BUT, you can have all the genetics in the world, if you take away the killer training and/or juice, guys WON'T get as big, guarenteed.

not arnold big thou. I feel what your saying maYn, and genetics should never be used as an excuse or a crutch, but Cmon, these pros have genetics that maybe 5% of the people in teh world have. You can't say its not genetics. In this day of age where fitness is rampid, theres always a few guys at every gym that do nothing but train and juice, for years on end and they will look nothing like a pro, never! You can always get big, no question, but there is a fine line seperating these guys from the rest of the world of BB, believe that. If anyone could do it, then everyone would do it, there are millions of guys out there that live the lifestyle, it don't matter. These pros for te most part start growing when they just think about the gym. Genetics have everything to do with just how far one can go, no doubt about it. peace

    ^ i hear ya, playa.

i guess my point was that most people could get huge with training and juice, but course not like Ronnie's size, or most other pro's for that matter.

But just lookin around at my gym, i see all the juiceheads. they're huge, and they don't even work that hard. sure they train hard, but its always chest and bi's, chest and bi's. i'm just saying, if they ate and ate and trained correctly, i think many people could get HUGE.

Saying that is like saying anyone can be an NFL quarterback if they train hard enough, and we know that is not true.

You are discrediting pro bodybuilders just like the general public does, they see a mag rag and say "yeah if I took the drugs they did and worked out for a living I would be that big too". And that is complete bullshit.

The guys that typically make it as a pro are the ones that start working out and within 3 months everyone thinks they using gear when they are not. They have superior genetics to gain muscle, whether it be their muscle fiber make-up or myostatin gene, I don't know, but like gr81 said there are a small percent of individuals that have the genetics to get huge.

LOL..evidence of this can be seen in almost ever night club I have ever been to. You know the "flex men" that where a black t-shirt that is a size or two to small and all they have are bi's and a puffed out chest...no forearms/traps/back..you get the picture, you most of seen these guys before.

^i never meant to discredit the pros. cuz if it were that easy, like you guys said, and like i also believe, everyone would be that big.

alls i'm saying is i think genetics are blown outta proportion IMO. i'm just saying, you take away all the juice and insane training they partake in, they'll be not so impressive
