soreness + same routine = good workout?

Ok, I read the other 'soreness' threads on this board, including the newest one, but, my question is just a bit different.

Can I assume I AM getting a good workout if I DO get sore the next day?

Heres the reason I ask:

I hear so much about changing your workout routine often, but, honestly, I haven't had to do this to achieve soreness for each muscle.

I just started working out 8 months ago. At first my muscles got sore, but then I stopped getting sore for awhile. Well, I eventually found an excerise/routine (not all at the same time) for each muscle group that allowed me to achieve soreness after EVERY workout. I have been getting sore after every workout for the past 4 months or so doing the same routine every time . It took me awhile to find the right routine for certain muscle parts such as my biceps, but I eventually found it.

I just want to make sure that I AM getting a good workout. I think soreness IS a good indicator, am I wrong? Do I need to change my routine if I continue to get sore with my current setup? Has anyone else experienced this?

Please dont suggest other obvious indicators of a good workout, my question is pertaining to soreness only since I have not seen a clear answer on whethere it IS a good indicator.

Thanks everyone!

have you increased your reps, weight, or amount of sets over the past 4 months?

Have you changed your style of lifting, ie reps, weight.....same as bulletproof1 suggested?

How is your diet? Are you taking in enought water and vitamins(glutamine)?

Because you are still somewhat new to lifting it is natural for you to use the same routine and still get sore....happens to many. But the one thing you need to look at as a good indicator if your routine is working rather then soreness are improvements. Are you improving?

I have increased weight yes, and I have noticed a difference in my looks.

That was not the focus of my question though.

I also realize I am new to lifting, but I have already experienced losing the ability to get sore (within the first couple of months), until I found these specific routines for each muscle.

Still looking for a clear answer on SORENESS.

Thanks for your replies

if you are increasing weights and you can see changes in your looks then you must be doing something right. like they always say, "dont fix what aint broke."

All soreness tells you is that your muscles are "breaking down" and rebuilding. Well, that happens to everyone who does resistance training.

The only way to know if your workout is effective is by tracking progress. Are you gaining mass and/or strength? If yes, then your routine is fine.

Gees you must know something I don't b/c I still get sore and I've been lifting for several years.

If you are noticing gains and are looking better whats the problem here? Keep doin it until you stop gaining or to prevent a platue just change your routine or rep scheme every few weeks.

No real problem, just want to know the specifics on muscle soreness.

So your basically telling me soreness has absolutely nothing to do with it?

By "breaking down and rebuilding" wouldn't that mean they are rebuilding bigger and bigger? Isn't that the basis behind weight training? This would mean muscle soreness IS a good indicator, right?

still havent heard a clear answer.

Thanks

Regular soreness tells you you're hitting the spots; along with regular attempts to increase intensity through higher reps/resistance, this is all that you can ask for. I wouldn't change it unless you get stale. For variety just vary the resistance/reps/do supersets, etc.

No soreness is not a good indicator. For any people who life at very low reps they rarely get sore but they still grow and improve. The only true method to tell if something is working is by improvements.

Well, after "breaking down," the muscles don't necessarily have to grow in size. They could just regenerate to their previous state. The point is that there is no need to concern yourself with it; just track your progress.
