    What did I Do

It's one week today that I either hurt my lower back or the upper part of my right buttocks. I just started doing deadlifts and squats for the first time 2 weeks ago. I'm not for sure which one cause it. I believe I felt a little pull duirng the deadlift. all i know is i couldn't make a 4th set yesterday when squatting as the pain after fully standing up was severe. now when i walk i feel the pain in the upper right side of my ass

    Yo,

You need to let it heal. Use ice 2 to 3 times a day
for about 15 minutes. Do not use it again if possible
until the pain goes away. You could have a muscle tear
or a disk problem. If you feel it in upper butt, it is probably
    a tear.

Do you have any bruising under the skin (blood ?).

My guess is that you hurt it during deadlift, if while lifting at all. I pull my back more frequently than I'd like to, and ice and heat work for me.

I use ice like crazy the first 2 days or so, then heat all the time. If you have a heating pad, use that. I just put it underneath me while lying in bed.

I'm sure there are some guys on here that would love to massage it for you (myself NOT included).

Let it heal completly first of all. Once you go back to lifting start light watch the form. Even if its just the bar or a minimal amountof weight, form is very important. For now at lower weights it may not seem so but once the plates start getting stackd up one little form flaw will end your career.

    Best of luck...

    Hey old man.

As you know, muscle soreness from working out is little micro tears of the muscle. A pulled muscle is a little larger tear. The tear you have is a little bit larger and drew blood. If it were larger yet, you would still be in pain and not able to use the muscle. You would need surgery to reattach it.

Use ice and give it at least 4 to5 weeks to heal. Then come back slowly and use light weights to see how it feels. Build up to higher weights gradually. If you try to come back to soon, you risk a larger tear or a complete tear.

I tore my lat doing pull ups about 8 weeks ago. I had a small amount of bruising too. I tried light wieghts after 2 weeks and it still felt "wierd".
Kind of a sick feeling if that makes any sense. Anyhow, after 5 weeks, I started light pulldowns and did not feel anything bad. in week 7, I started slow pull ups and have not had any problems or bad feelings at all.

Good luck. But don't rush it.
At your age and mine (47), we don't heal like we used to.

I had the same problem that you do, and it was from deads and squats as well. It is most likely a muscle that has tensed and won't let go. You will probably need a couple sessions of massage therapy and you will need to lay off of squats and deads for awhile.

Ya, the massage therapy will release the tensed muscle. Unfortunatly, I had a rather large woman working on me, but you may be a little more lucky with it. And no, I am not offering services, just advice.
