    Knee Pain

Ive searched the forum for a thread relating to my problem and didnt find one so heres the new 1

I've been following the HIIT program for 6 weeks straight. 30sec. of jogging(level5) and 30sec. of sprinting(level 8-10 depending on my mood). I am also religiously following p/rr/s and is on the 3rd cycle(7th week).

My HIIT days are weds/sat/sun since there are 3 workouts required per week.

Up untill saturday my knees were fine and now im feeling pain in my knees especially when walking down steps.

What do I do to prepare myself for wednesday and my 13 minutes of HIIT?
Is aspirin ok to take ? if so, do i take it 15minutes before i run or more.

I dont want to avoid doing HIIT since im almost done with the 8week program so taking the day off is not an option.

*edit yes, i wear running shoes

It has always been my philosophy that if something is causing a bad pain to cease doing it immediately, don't risk permanent damage.

Don' try and work through it.

Also the asprin many say is a bad idea because it simply keeps you from being in pain when in reality you may be doing more harm. You may not feel some thing ripping or tearing so you go harder and faster...once the meds wear off you notice you have severely screwed something up. I'd say its good for healing but don't take it before you go into the gym.

hmm....I knew I was going to get this kind of advise!! deep deep down I know I have to rest my knees. I know I should listen to my body and I always did. This time around I just wanted to push myself harder since I'm almost done with the HIIT program.

I didnt realize that asprin is a bad idea before a workout....you're right...but I'll decide weds. on whether or not I should continue HIIT. Ill jog/sprint for the 1st minute. if pain persists....its over. My knees will get the rest it wants. but untill then, I'm going to elevate/ice my knee.

Walk on an inclined treadmill for a while until you heal up.

Also,if you are running to do your HIIT,try doing it on an eliptical as there is virtually no impact on your knees or hips.

    Good luck!

I agree with tjwes. Try your HIIT on the elliptical or bike. Are you doing Leg Ext? Sometimes you can put unwanted stress on your knees doing the Leg Ext.

I love the elliptical now. No stress on your knees.

Your going to have to figure that out yourself. Of course everyones different. And bear in mind it may take awhile to get used to the elliptical. I didn't like it at first, but after awhile I really like it.

Even though the eliptical and running perform the same motion they are definatly different. I did the eliptical all the time then one day went to run and yea I wasn't prepared...but you adjust quickly. You don't need to use any of the stabalizer muscles or worry about joint pains.
