    Warming Up

Before I start my lifting I do some warming-up: 10 mins on the bicycle and some stretching. Should I be doing some warming up with the weights?? -- such as in Max-OT.

I prefer to warm up using light weights (progressively incrementing each warm up set) on the first exercise i do for that session. I usually do 3 warm up sets (or a set with just the bar and then 3 warm up sets) before i even consider going into my work set. I do high reps with the lower weights and my 3rd warm up set is more of a CNS "climatising" set of about 2 reps but near enough my work weight. Then i give myself 3-5 minutes to get my head together and recoup before i start my work sets.

    For example, squats:

1st set: 15 reps with the bar
2nd set: 10 reps with 15-20k per side
3rd set: 6 reps with 40k per side
4th set (climatise): 2 reps with 50k per side

    ~ 3-5 mins rest ~

    Work sets.

My warmups consist of 100 jumping jacks right at the beginning of my workout, and then one warmup set for each muscle group at about 50-60% of the weight that I am going to be lifting.

Some people like to do a lot of warmup sets. I don't think anything more than one warmup set and one weight acclimation set is necessary unless you notice problems without a more involved warmup. Also, working up to a one rep max should involve a more gradual acclimation of weights.
