    OLYMPIC vs. POWER lifting

What are the main differences as far as results in functional strength and physical appearance if you took the same person and put them on a powerlifting routine versus an olympic lifting routine.

Also is there a way to hybrid both into a workout scheme to reap the benefits of both styles of strength training? Thanks in advance...

ps...i ask because i did clean and press's from waist height and realized how tiring and hard they were. I normally could do seated barbell militar press's with 185 for 4 sets of 4 reps but i could only do the clean and press's with 135 for 3 sets of 6.

Olympic lifts are fast twitch muscles mainly, while Powerlifting utilizes your slow twitch muscles.

Olympic lifters do the clean and jerk and the snatch. Power lifters do the bench press, squat, and deadlift.

You could always try to incorporate both types of lifts into your routine. I know P-Funk incorporates olympic lifts into his routine sometimes. I'm not sure how to go about it, but perhaps he could point you in the right direction.

    Powerlifting utilizes slow twitch fibers?

I've never seen someone bench press 800 pounds using slow twitch fibers.

Why are those strange numbers? When I do the seated military press with a Barbell i can do 4x4 with 185lbs...i did 3x6 with 135 with a hanging clean and press.

I think what he means is that when you train for power and in low reps your using your slow twitch or white muscle fibers i beleive...however i'm going to be starting westside and they also train fast twitch red fibers on dynamic effort days to work on technique and explosion/speed etc.???

so how to incorporate oly lifts in my westside routine?

Actually, both powerlifting and OLympic lifting use BOTH slow and fast twitch fibers. I addressed this in another thread.
