how much cardio do you do now? How much do you run now? To be a good runner you need to run. If cardiovascular conditioning is your goal then work on improving your mile time and your VO2 max.

Drop your body fat percentage a bit, you'll probably see some improvement. Remember that your aerobic conditioning won't last as long as anaerobic conditioning - you need to train it more often to maintain it.

Certainly. Start by jogging whatever you are capable of, which to me sounds like 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times per week. Gradually increase the frequency and/or workload; you will see improvements in very little time since you are currently untrained.

Why are you getting upset about not running fast?

Personally, IMO, Id worry more about putting on mass than running fast. Spend your exercise time building.

You have MY problem too. I used to run jr.varsity Cross Country in HS (im 19 now btw). My best 5k CROSS COUNTRY time was under 19m on a rolling hill course. Now, ON A TRACK it's about 24m.

So, yeah, just run/jog what ur capable of a couple times a week. You might also wanna try cycling, rowing, stairclimbing, etc. cause running can get boring fast. Eat healthier if ur not already, take stairs not elevator and all that wonderful stuff.

i want to build and run fast, i think that's the best combination. How about every morning i run .25 miles? or is it better to jog .5 miles?

Do anaerobic conditioning then. Burpees/squat thrusts, interval running, hit a heavy bag around until you puke, etc

Don't worry about exact distances. Just jog until you are fatigued. You said you jogged a mile in 10 minutes. That is a good place to start if you really want to keep track of the distance.

man you ran a mile in ten minutes!? you could walk taht sit in that time.. anyways why are you so worried about it anyways? distance running is not the tihng to do for mass my friend. Unless there is a specific reason why you need to run like that, why do it?

I feel ya.. man I used to do the cross country thing in high school, and I was about 90 lbs lighter between then and now, fucc distance running! ha ha... all that work and strain, and the only real benefit was being able to do it faster. I look back and am so glad I am not doin that anymore. All you have to do is ask yourself if a lower testosterone level and a higher cortisol level sounds appealing or is going to be condusive to your training.. answer = hell no! peace

As a distance runner, I can tell you the only way to get faster is to increase your mileage week to week. However, generally the same principles apply as to bodybuilding, meaning you can get into overtraining pretty quickly. A good rule of thumb is to increase your overall mileage by 10% a week. Therefore you light want to start with 1/2 a mile 3x per week, then increase next week to 2/3 mile, etc.

Also, if you want to get faster, you have to run faster - use intervals and tempo work and it will help you. Add some speed burts in during your workouts. I got from a 30 minute 5k a year ago to a PB of 21 minutes this year just by adding tempo and increasing overall mileage.
Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.

The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.
