I have been contemplating training for a triathlon. I'm a regular runner, and as of late I've been in the pool and tried a spinning class. I think I'm pretty motivated for it. My question was, how does triathlon training affect your cut? I bet you lose a lot of muscle mass but I'm not too worried about that. I'm more intent on getting more ripped and cut. Do you guys know any triathlon athletes? and how are their body compositions? how are their body proportions as well?
Before I busted up my shoulder, I used to ride mountain bikes. I knew some guys who participated in triathalon. You see all kinds of body shapes, but the ones who seemed to do the best are what I would describe as skinny guys; not really cut as much as just thin. Not a lot different from marathon runners. These guys weren't pros or anything, so other people might have more valid opinions.
How were their abdominal and arm muscles? I'd really like to know if it's possible to get ripped by doing triathlon training. I'm at like 13% body fat and I'm curious to know what would be the body composition effects of 6 months of triathlon training.
well i have done 2 triathlons over the past year as well as a marathon. I actually gained weight throughout the training since i was eating so much more than usual. I also lost strength in lifts like the deadlift,bench press, and squat. I didnt notice any loss in size but did start to get a little more cut look. Just take a look at the pro-triathletes...if you are after that the cut/thin look this might be a good sport for you to take up.
Everyone was pretty lean. I'm not sure about triathalon events, but mtn biking we had classes for all kinds, even clydesdale for big guys. I think if you want to get leaner, then triathalon would do it.
