"OVERTRAINING" With Those Size Arms
I surely don't understand what just happened But a person in my past just came to thoughts. Hope you enjoy this little story.
In 1966 my first day of high school. I'm walking down one corridor and as I look up here comes a senior named Greg. Greg is 5" 9" tall a high school senior with cannons for arms, ( 20 1/2" ) with a max bench press of 425 lbs. So later that night I'm talking to my older brother who's on the wrestling team (also a senior) and ask Gary do you know the guy with those big arms cause he's scary looking. My brother replies yes his name is Gred and I sometimes lift weights with him. Well time to get to the point. As time goes on I finally get to meet Greg. Come to find out Greg is all natural and had been lifting since 8th grade. The funny thing is Greg had been lifting 7 days a week for the last 3 years and sometimes twice a day. I always here of overtraining and have no idea back in the 60"s if people knew of such a thing as overtraining. How was it that Greg was able to get a way with it. 7 days a week and sometimes 2 x a day. I know what your thinking a fish story where the fish gets larger everytime it's told. But gentleman this is a true story. |

I doubt that he had 20 and a half inch arms at the age of 17.

Do you know what kind of volume he trained with? Are you positive he was all natural? People will often times lie about that to make their results seem more impressive, or because they don't want to get into legal troubles.
Also, some people have amazing genetics that allow them to recover exceptionally quick. |

I've only seen one ripped arm of over 20 inches in my life. The guy was in his early 30s. If his bodyfat were high I could understand, but otherwise the kid would be a true genetic anomaly
![]() Granted I probably don't train in the same gyms you guys do..but a 20 inch arm is massive in any case. |

I'd love to sport 20+, and I'm hardly knocking a 425 press as it took me forever to get over 400. But, someone natural, with that kind of size but lower strength numbers - I'd vote on carrying some dead weight.

The guy would have to be on the chubby side and if the measurements are correct I bet they are not cold measurements. Back to the topic of overtraining I do believe he was big and I do believe he trained 7 days a week, twice a day, yrs on end without overtraining. I have heard similar stories. My guess is they are genetic freaks.
It is not the type of training I would reccomend for anyone. IMO He would have gotten as good or better results on a more traditional routine. |

Answere to a couple of you statements. 1) I saw him put up the 425. I'm not sure if he could do more. 2) He was a freak. I'm telling you he was natural. 3) This guy wasn't fat at all. He wasn't big anywhere else except for this unbelievable arms he had.
Tell you the name of the high school. Charter Oak High in Covina calif. First name Greg, last name started with a "B". Guys at 17 to 18 years old and only weigh 195Lbs, 425 is a hell of a lot. What made me think of all this is I've probably been overtraining. I didn't think i was and then I thought of greg. Think of this. your 13 years old and run into some senior who looks massive to you. back in the 60's when i was 13 you didn't see guys like this. Now it's probably in all high schools. Kids now day are hugh compared to the 60's Sorry If you don't believe me. I wasn't trying to impress anyone but just wonder how a guy could workout that much and not overtrain. That's all I'll keep some of my unbelievable thoughts to myself. Hey at least you responded for better or worst. |

He could have been very weak off the chest from not enough chest/back work and form issues then, and thusly gotten great triceps from it, who knows. Still though those are huge arms for a guy putting up a "mere" 425, but really whatever whatever
![]() I knew some developed guys in high school but only one floored me, I wont mention his name but I remember it well, then again that was a mere 13 or 14 years ago that I last saw him. I also have a great memory for certain things. He was lean, and as I remembered him huge, but I never asked his true stats. He was also very short, and I used to joke he was probably juicing since he was 11 or 12 because he looked like he had that many years under his belt, and he was also tremendously short. |

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I'm placing my bets that he wasnt all natural
with those numbers at 17. |

I'll I know is at 13 yrs old, and at that time a short fat little boy that I was, I sure in the fuck wasn't going to argue with him. Come to think about it maybe I should have then he could of put me in one of those bear hugs and sqeezed the fat from my belly to my chest.

Hmmm, well, in 1966 he would have been one of the very best benchers in the world with a 425 lb press. There were men who could press more, but not too many.
Perhaps your memory is off a bit because it was so long ago? |
