I only go to 90 degrees. For warmups, sometimes, Ill go ass-to-the-grass. But never with heavy weight, its rough on the knees.
As for less than 90, I hope no one votes that. If they do, they should be embarassed.
> 90 degrees
90 degrees
< 90 degrees
How low do you lower your self during squats in terms of the angle of your knee? i.e. Greater than 90 degrees is not very low, whereas less than 90 degrees is on the lower end.

I break parallel on back squats and go ATF on front squats...
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
I usually aim for just below parallel.
Well I did, and based upon the way he described in his first post less than 90 degrees was meant to be ATF or ATG movements. If that isnt the case then I change my voteOriginally Posted by du510
I like the way LAM said it better, parallel or below parallel , less confusion that way. I go ATF on all squats, that may change as I get to use bigger weights
I go slightly below parallel.
As far as less than 90 degrees, nobody should be "embarassed" if they work out in such a fashion.
"in the howling bleeding nights, the dogs plunge into the Volga and swim desperately to gain the other bank. The nights of Stalingrad are a terror for them. Animals flee this hell; the hardest stones cannot bear it for long; only men endure."

don't squat anymore, but when I did (for about 15 years) I went below parallel, and I never had a knee problem.
I do all 3.
Great tip: If you strengthen a portion of the ROM, you will strengthen the entire ROM.
Therefore, don't be afraid to do less than parallel work sometimes. You'll be able to go heavier and it will help.
yay.
Yep, below parrallel. Even on heavy, knees feel great
90* isn't that far down cause your shin leans forward and changes the angle. 90* would be very shallow![]()
That is correct, less than 90 degrees is lower to the ground than the other options. BTW, I go just below 90 degrees. I have read that this is less stressful than making the change of motion at 90 degrees. Real peoples' experiences provide more useful info for me than a Men's Health tid-bit. I apologize for the poor wording of this poll.Originally Posted by pmech

Train beyond the pain...and death is your only release
Yeah I don't see why you wouldn't go all the way down. If you're lifting something in real life it's better to go all the way to the ground if it's low down than bending over and risking a back injury.
