Quick cardio question

yo,
I understand that loosing BF% is 80% nutrition/diet and 20% cardio. I also have the understanding (could be wrong) that most of the bf% loss is lost because of your motabalism going up and burning more calories while just sitting (out of the gym).
That said. . . Does it make sense to eat alot of calories like, for example sake, 3000 calories / 2 hours of cardio a day. Basically the question is Would uping your caloric intake and your cardio make your motabolism STRONG causing you to loose alot of BF?

Thx
j

Does it make sense? To give you a simplified answer, NO. Upping your caloric intake and your cardio would indeed keep your metabolism up, but tell me this, why don't I just eat 5000 calories and do cardio. Will I lose BF%? The answer is obviously no, that to lose weight you need to have a calorie deficit, so if you eat 3000 calories you have to end up burning more than 3000 a day. To find out exactly how many calories you are burning in a day, it would be difficult but you can use some calorie energy expenditure charts and you can also figure it out by varying your calorie intake until you find the right amount.

And your first line is also wrong. You say that 80% of BF loss is due to nutrition and diet and the other is cardio? Weight training gives you many fat loss benefits as well. I lost 40 lbs without doing any cardio and only weight training. In fact, weight training keeps your metabolism up longer than doing cardio.

Well, cutting for me is about 2800 calories. The number of calories is all relative. As long as you are in a caloric deficit, you will be fine. Start at about 15 calories per pound of bodyweight. If you don't lose the desired amount of weight in two weeks, then reduce this number of calories by 10%. Repeat until desired weight loss occurs. Also note, two pounds or less per week is the most you can hope to lose while retaining most or all of your muscle. One pound per week is a very common rate of fat loss to shoot for.

The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...

Wink

it's very east to overtrain weel losing BF. i do very little when cutting. i cut then resume a deit containing 200-300 cals above daily maintience. the cardio i do is a combo of v-max & cardio training. this builds mucle as well as burns fat. think about a marathon runner, mostly lungs and spindley legs! very little muscle because it's extra weight and not needed for endurance.now think about a world class sprinter, ripped with mass a cut. to build and keep mass one should keep cardio to a minium. i usually before bulking will drop 20-30 lbs by diet and weight training only, then eat clean and then put the weight back on. i cycle this method 3 times anually. each cycle retaining 5-7 lbs of lean mass. this works for my goal.

work smarter, not harder!
