Aye, sprints on an athletics track is marvellous.

I'm also fond of jumping onto the stepper for 30 minutes (the one where there's less resistance as you up the level, so you're having to move quicker to "stay up" - not the one that puts up more resistance for you to push against).

They're two different types of cardio though.

#1 Swim, #2 Run

If you have the means, you'll notice your bigger cardio gains from swimming. Swimming uses more muscles at one time than anything else.

#2 is running.

#3 would be a circuit - that forces you to work many muscles one after another with little or no rest.

In either case, if you want gains from cardio you cannot go easy, and you have to be consistent. Cardio gains are all about intensity; however, the irony is that you have gauge your intensity so you don't get injured.

If you have the time, swimming is my preference. Although getting dressed and drying off etc may exceed your time constraints. Ofcourse this is all contingent on you having a pool available and the ability to swim
