who would you say is stronger?...
The guy who can bench press 275 for maybe 3 sets of 4-5 reps OR the guy who can bench press 225 for 3 sets 15+ reps per set?? Or for a back analogy, the guy who can do a weighted chin-up with 25 lbs strapped to him for 3 sets of 6 or the guy who can do body weight chins for 3 sets of 20+??
I ask because I currently do the first scenario, but for some reason, I am growing bored of it. I think my joints are starting to act up from all the heavy lifting, plus it's getting hard to get psyched up every day to do it. I was thinking about a routine where I just pick a weight, a decently heavy weight, but lower than I am currently doing for the 5 or so reps, and then just trying to up the reps each week as opposed to the weight. Obviously I dont want to be bench pressing with sets of 25 reps, so within reason I will up the weight when I can get too many reps. What do you think? Sound routine, or should I just stick with what I am doing, and in the end, who will be the stronger guy from my example above, or what would you personally rather be able to do, 275 for 4-5 reps or 225 for 15 reps? \thanks |

I can think of no instance where I have seen someone rep 225 out for 15 that can't get 275 for 5, but I have seen instances where people get 275 for 5 but can't get 225 for 15, so I go for the 225 for 15.
It is prolly an energy system issue with you, a WSB routine would do wonders in this area. |

maybe your putting to much thought into who is stronger.
If you feel your joints are aching from lifting heavy than switch your type of training. I do this all the time. I am a primary powerlifter, but at the moment I'm trying to cutt down and do higher endurancing workouts. The reason being is because I was lifting heavy for a while now and I feel like my body needs a different type of workout other wise I'm going to dig a hole deeper. |

Yeah, i agree with this dude. You should try a cyclical program where you jump between weeks of volume, intensity, rep range and weight. Mix them up and come up with a pseudo-periodisation routine. |
