    Question To train or not?

Currently I have a little bit of a cold. I do cardio in the morning four times a week and I lift four or five nights a week. Should I stop training all together until I'm over the cold? I've only been training for about two months and I've seen alot of improvement this last month. It just kills me to sit there and not go work out. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

It's a subjective call really. I usually stop training all together if I am sick.
There was a rule of thumb that said as long as your "cold" is above the neck you can train.

I think its pretty much a personal thing. I too hate to miss a training day because i'm sick. It usually depends on how sick I feel. if your cold isn't bad I say train . but if it is you should rest and let your body rid itself of the infection before having to put it through the stress of repairing your worked muscles.

    Servus!

I'm with seyone on this one in regards to allowing the body to heal up from infection. I have read a few studies that show that you can actually lengthen the time needed to recover from a cold if you continue to do excercise during the first week. same study showed that moderate activity (light cardio) towards the end could assist in the immune response and speed recovery.

I can't do squat when I feel like that - usually follow the "moderate activity towards the end" advice. Seems to help, YMMV.

I have worked out when sick, I have played hockey when sick. It will not make you any more sick, but you feel like HELL while you are working out, and you will most likely not be able to lift as much becuase your body is using its resources to fight the cold.

One time while I played hockey with a cold, I puked on the bench. Sweeeet!

Taking a few days off hurts mentally more than physically. You think you're melting like the wicked witch from the west, but inside you're still rebuilding from a workout a week ago. Like Prince said, The rule of thumb, use it.

If you feel pretty good physically you'll be okay, but you need to figure out if that's your body talking or your brain saying you're losing it.

Thanks for the thoughts. It's definitely a mental thing. I fell like I'm withering away just sitting here. I am going to do some light cardio at the end of this. Thanks

a head cold does'nt stop me from going to the gym.as the rule of thumb. any thing worse then that,i stay home.when you work out your 'stressing out'' cells, and they're already stressed out from being really sick

Whatsup bro? It is kind of a personal thing. I kind of a feel a little bit of a cold this morning when I woke up, so I am increasing my vitamin C intake to 6g today and the next few days I think. I AM going to train tomorrow if I feel up to it. Training while sick though bro will only make things worse and worse...

You'll regret it if u dont.. I was sick for 3 weeks with a minor cold just because i kept training like a madman. It's worth taking the days off and then make up for it when u are well again...
