olympic vs. standard

Im just curious if there is any real difference (besides the diameter) between olympic weight barbells and standard weight barbells. I have a lot of standard plates and use them for everthing, but my leg press, which I have alot of olympic plates for. Recently I bent my standard barbell and was wondering ifmaybe the olympic barbells are a little stronger, etc?

Thanks for any help.

The standard plates don't fit around the circumference of my dick, so I am forced to use Olympic.

Waaaaaaaaaaaay stronger, the cheap Olympic sets are rated to handle 500 pounds. My standard set with a shorter bar, would bend with 100 on each side.

Sure I do. His name is Groin McJohnson, and for a reasonable price he has been known to provide hours of pleasure to many an IM member's wife/gf/sister/whatever.

OK, first Max I am trying to talk about stiff bars, not that 3 inch long thing that doesn't get any harder than a marshmellow.

Mudge, thanks for the input. The standard bar I have if pretty nice, and is also 7 foot, but im guessing from your statment that the size length really dosen't matter.

Well time to tell my wife that I need to spend about $500.00 on new weight equipment. HAHAHA

The longer the bar the more it will bend, but the diameter does not allow for much in the way of strength unless your standard bar is extra thick. Keep in mind most standard sets were built to be around 110 pounds or 160-165, so they were not intended for big weights.

Even the Olympic bars at my gym are bent from probably 600+ weights, they wobble a bit with 545. An entry level Olympic set should take care of most folks.

I use all Olympic, my Dad uses both. Buy an olympic set, pretty cheap at Sports Authority around $99-120. Use both and you'll be fine!!!
