Had a cold, off for 3 days, feel much better, 4th day off? Can't decide?
I had a cold that started this past Thursday night but wasn't sure if it was a cold.
I missed shoulders on Saturday & Friday & Sunday were days off anyway.
It felt more like a sinus cold as I was congested yet my nose was running at the same time plus I felt pressure in the eyes & nose area.
Sunday, yesterday I was feeling much better but not %100 while I still had some congestion.
Today I feel much better, just a tiny bit congested.
Should I take one more day off from the gym do you think?
I used train when with a cold but right during the massive attack so to speak when I was younger, mostly b/c of a buddy who didn't want to waste time while on cycles.
I found that if I trained during the peak of the cold, it would usually get much worse & take even longer to go away so I've been resting during colds & flu's the last several years.
Or should I do just a partial chest & bicep workout?
What's the harm in waiting until you're sure you're back to 100%? One additional day off from the gym will have absolutely zero effect on your training, your body, your gains, etc... You're better off waiting and avoiding a possible relapse because you over-exerted yourself prematurely!

This I agree with.
The thing is I think I'm about %95 better now.
I just have a bit of nasal congestion with NO OTHER SYMPTOMS.
This is why I'm wondering if it would hinder my cold recovery as my cold is practically gone but just not completely gone.

Well since im a nut and i train basically unless im dying, i would say go train. Let your body dictate whether to go or not.
As I said I used to be this way mostly b/c of one buddy I would train with a lot who is a steroid user & very often trained while sick as he did not want to "waste" any part of his cycles.
But now I usually don't train like a "nut" as you put it when I'm sick.
Don't get me wrong, I hate missing the gym.

I hear ya & know what you mean, but it's been my past experience that when I would train when sick or think that I was better, I usually get sicker which sucks even worse than missing 1 or 2 days of training.
It's about 1:45pm now that the day has progressed my nasal congestion is practically gone & otherwise I feel fine.
This is why it's a hard decision. I had a feeling that the afternoon or by the end of the day at least the cold would be practically gone.
But I think I may just rest today & make up with tomorrow, but that will mean that I will only get 3 days of training in this week which sucks.
It's true, sometimes you go to the gym while recovering and it seems to quicken the recovery. If you're not dizzy, can focus and have reasonable energy, go for it, otherwise another day off's irrelevant, won't make any difference.
Do not workout if you're sick..your body has finite recovery ability to deal with stress, and exercise is a stress (as is a virus)
The idea that this is an issue of "toughness" is ridiculous..

I decided to take an extra day off & it's about 10:30pm & I'm already feeling about %98 give or take a couple of %'s.
I will do a make up day for chest/ biceps & just do several sets of leg press with calves & I will do my hamstrings on back day which will only take about 15mins.
So I'm really not missing anything except cardio which I don't like to miss too much as it obviously burns fat & keeps fat off.
Oh well.
It's better to be fully healed.
Do you think someone on steroids as my friend for example would waste any of his cycle by taking 4 days to a week off to rest while sick with a cold or flu?
One of my friends who's been using steroids for about 10yrs now trains while sick as he thinks he is wasting parts of his cycle while resting if sick.
I'll train if I don't feel sick, but I experience some minor sniffling or something. It's really up to you though. You know if you feel up to training or not. If you have to force yourself to train because your body is saying no, then don't train. Another day off isn't going to mean much one way or the other.
The only time it's bad to feel the burn is when you're peeing...
I agree 100%. I'm in the beginning stages of a cold myself. I felt it coming on yesterday (12/29/04). I HATE BEING SICK!!!
I know what you mean. I hate when you know your'e about to go down with a cold. You know it'll mean not training for a few days or whatever. I just accept it and try to recover ASAP by resting.
What this means is that when we drop a ball and it falls to the ground, it wasn't the ball that moved (down to the ground), but the ground that moved (up to the ball)
