Is it true that...

is it true that you shouldnt do more than 20 reps per every body part u work out..
and also if ur lifting for toned mass ( if such a thing exists)...how many reps or different excersises shud u do on one specific muscle group and what is the best way to do my reps since there are so many different ways out there..12-12-12..10-8-6...6-6-4..
also.. what are the differences between doing 3 sets as opposed to maybe doing 4 or 5 sets like i see many other doin sometimes

There is nothing wrong with doing above 20 repetitions, just don't expect to be gaining much mass or strength. At that point, you are primarily increasing muscular endurance.

Toning is a function of lower bodyfat. Lose fat or gain muscle mass, that's how you tone.

There is no best repetition range. You should never stay in one range. I use different ranges for different bodyparts too. I like 8-12 for core work, but 4-8 for a lift like the bench press.

I try to stay in the 8-12 range for most dumbbell movements. I feel like I can perform each repetition with a form that is closer to perfect if I do this. It is something that I started doing recently, and it is working for me.

i believe he means total. like 20 reps as in 4 sets of 5. anything over 12 in one set is much more endurance-oriented than strength-oriented.

j rizz, i do more than 20 reps for my tris when i work them out. i do 9 sets of 6-8 reps, 4 different excercises. that's 54-72 reps total. this is a very common volume of training to perform, and will by no means hinder your mass gain, ive been super-successful in getting my tris recently doing the aforementioned amount of volume. anything less than 20 reps and your body will probably not see much need to gain mass.

Try telling that to LAM. He uses up to 20 reps in a single set, and that man is a monster in terms of size and strength.
