Maxing out
How often should one max out, i was told by an ex-pro bodybuilder to max once a month to see if you'd made any progress and see if your current routine is working for you. does that sound like a good idea or what? and if it is a good idea then how should i incorperate it into my workout? Max out then finish with a regular workout? that is my best idea because i hit every muscle once a week and dont want to fall behind at all and that would be maxing about every 4 workout per bodypart, anyone have any thoughts on this?

I max out about every 12-14 weeks. 8 weeks would be the minimum I would train someone in a strength training cycle.
BBers are not training for strength so they will not have a good strength program. Therefore they will not make strength gains as often as they could(especially every month). |

If your goals i to gain mass, then I would suggest weighing yourself, calculating your bodyfat with calipers, and using a tape to measure the various parts of your body to track progress.

Some powerlifters dont even max out until competition day or close to it.
You can go for tripples or 5x5 if you like strength. |

I dont anymore on a bench for example because generally I am trying to push the limits.
Thats where the max calculators come in, printed out in the back of my log book. |

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...
